Spanish coach and former World No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero has bitter feelings about Carlos Alcaraz‘s quarterfinal exit at the Australian Open. The 21-year-old was aiming to win all four Grand Slam titles but saw his Melbourne run come to an end against Novak Djokovic.

Ferrero believes that reaching the quarterfinals at the Australian Open would be a good result for many players. However, the high standards set by Alcaraz make that result unacceptable for him.

It’s a bit of a disappointment for everyone. A lot of players would sign for a quarter-final, but with Carlos’ potential we still believe we can go further. The win in Rotterdam was an injection of motivation and confidence for the future.

Alcaraz has failed to reach the semifinals of the Australian Open for the second year in a row. Last year, he lost to Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals. This year, he suffered the same fate against Djokovic.

Despite this, Alcaraz still has the chance to become the youngest player to achieve a Career Grand Slam. His idol, Rafael Nadal, accomplished that feat at 24, setting a record. Alcaraz, at just 21, still has time to surpass him.

Where will Carlos Alcaraz play next?

Carlos Alcaraz has already done more than many tennis legends. Yet, he is still early in his career. The 21-year-old Spanish star has won four Grand Slam titles. He has also been ranked world No. 1 and claimed many ATP Tour trophies.

Alcaraz won his first ATP title in 2021 at the Croatia Open. He defeated Richard Gasquet in the final. He won his first five ATP finals. In 2022, he took a big step by winning the US Open. He later won Wimbledon in 2023 and defended his title in 2024. He also won the French Open in 2024.

So far, Alcaraz has earned $38,728,388 in prize money. This makes him the ninth highest-earning male tennis player. Prize money has increased over the years. If he keeps winning, he could soon be among the top four earners in history.

Alcaraz will likely play next at the Qatar Open in Doha. The event begins on February 17. Many top players, including Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, and Daniil Medvedev, are expected to compete. The tournament is offering big fees to attract the best players.
