Carlos Alcaraz’s 2026 season is arguably one of the most anticipated in recent memory. After an amazing season on tour this year, the Spaniard now has a chance of winning his maiden Australian Open in January next year. His coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, has revealed he hopes the 22-year-old achieves great things in 2026.

Alcaraz had an excellent season on tour this year. After having a rough start in January, he got off to a perfect run at the Rotterdam Open in February, winning the first indoor hard-court title of his career. He then struggled during the Sunshine Doubles, failing to defend the Indian Wells Masters.

But it was during the clay-court season that the World No.1 got to the peak of his form. He won the Monte Carlo Masters, Italian Open, and French Open, losing just one match at the Barcelona Open. He continued with his impressive form on grass, winning the Queen’s Club Championships and reaching the final of Wimbledon.

During the North American hard-court swing, he didn’t lose a match, winning his maiden Cincinnati Open and his second US Open title in New York. After a short break from tour, he earned his last title of the year at the Japan Open, despite suffering an injury scare in his opening match against Sebastian Baez.

Alcaraz has an opportunity to become the youngest man to complete a Career Grand Slam by winning the 2026 Australian Open. During an interview with Puntodebreak, Juan Carlos Ferrero revealed that the major goal is not to win titles on the court but to keep the Spaniard’s ambition on the court awake:

Our mission is to keep his ambition awake. Knowing Carlos, it is not going to happen, but obviously you don’t have to settle for what he has achieved. From now on, that motivation has to go in crescendo, we want to achieve great things that are within the reach of very few, continue to be very motivated and not settle for anything, always go for more with that joy that characterises him and that infects all of us.

However, Alcaraz will be heavily challenged by his arch-rival Jannik Sinner next season. Sinner finished the year as World No.2, winning six titles, including the ATP Finals in Turin. He holds one of the best records on hard courts so far. Should Alcaraz’s dream of winning the Australian Open come to fruition, he has to beat Sinner.

Carlos Alcaraz’s coach believes he’s matured to handle difficult situations better

Carlos Alcaraz has made sure that his game has evolved faster than usual since 2023. He has added things to his game that make him hard to beat when at his best on the court. One major part of his game that has stood out is his variety of shot styles of play, which confuses his opponents.

Several players have often noted that it’s more difficult to beat the Spaniard than his rival Jannik Sinner. During the aforementioned interview, Samuel Lopez, one of Alcaraz’s coaches, revealed that one good thing about the 22-year-old game is that he has matured in his abilities and skills on the court:

Carlos has matured and recognized the importance of expressing his feelings and how he feels. Since Monte Carlo, he has been communicating much more about his emotions, which has helped him express himself better, in difficulties, fears, and everything that comes with the pressure of the circuit.

Alcaraz will hope to show the maturity next year, when he has a lot of titles to defend. He will certainly be under pressure to win the Australian Open, which means he has to show his experience at the tournament by not letting the pressure get to him, while aiming to play his best tennis.
