In Short
  • Juan Carlos Ferrero confirmed that a misunderstanding led to his split with Carlos Alcaraz after seven years of partnership.
  • Ferrero stated that both parties had different expectations, which prevented a settlement.
  • Despite the split, Ferrero remains open to a potential reunion with Alcaraz in the future.

Juan Carlos Ferrero has officially disclosed the behind-the-scenes situation of the split with Carlos Alcaraz. The duo ended their partnership in December last year.

Speaking on COPE, Ferrero said that there were no signs of any breakdown in the beginning. However, there were undisclosed things required from both parties, which is why neither came to a settlement.

There were no signs that it was going to end. The contract, if nothing was said, renewed automatically every season. In the end, each one has thought of a different way in terms of how to continue. Each one has pulled in their own direction. A very beautiful story has been spoiled. I was asking for certain things and they were asking for others. These are private matters. Nothing bad has happened, it’s just that there hasn’t been any understanding.

Ferrero has been regular in his academy, which was where he scouted Alcaraz. After their split, the Spanish media claimed that Alcaraz’s parents were reluctant to see Ferrero involved in a lot of things regarding their son.

The dynamic duo had a partnership of seven years, in which they enjoyed two stints as World No.1 and six Grand Slam titles. Alcaraz also won eight Masters 1000 titles.

After their split, Ferrero was also asked about the potential of coaching Alcaraz’s rival l, Jannik Sinner. The elder Spaniard didn’t deny that opportunity as well.

They say sequels are never as good, but in some movies they really are. Deep down in my heart, I couldn’t say no to him.

Sinner is currently coached by Darren Cahill, who is expected to leave his coaching role at the end of this year. It was rumored that the legendary coach would retire as the tennis coach at the end of 2025, but Sinner’s convincing kept him in his role.

Alcaraz, meanwhile, is enjoying the leadership of Samuel Lopez with his brother as assistant. Lopez was hired initially as Ferrero’s assistant.

Juan Carlos Ferrero opens up on Carlos Alcaraz not mentioning him in the Australian Open speech

Carlos Alcaraz‘s former coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, has spoken about his former student, not mentioning him in the Australian Open winning ceremony. The 2003 Roland Garros champion laid it all out in the Spanish press.

It didn’t bother me that he didn’t mention me; obviously, if he had, I would have liked it, but I assume that he and his team have decided not to talk about the topic anymore, and that’s it. I hold onto the message he sent me when we parted ways, in which he thanked me for everything we’d been through and told me that I had been key to him reaching where he has.

Alcaraz won his seventh Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, becoming the youngest to achieve the Career Grand Slam. The previous record was held by another Spanish legend, Rafael Nadal.

Alcaraz denied Novak Djokovic his 25th Grand Slam with a four-set win in the final. He’s the first man to beat the Serb in an Australian Open final.

Coincidentally, this was Alcaraz’s first Grand Slam without having Ferrero in the box. Hence, this win silenced all the critics who were ready to remind the young Spaniard about this controversial split.
