Carlos Alcaraz seems to be struggling physically just a few hours after his opening match loss at the ATP Finals. It was reported that he spent nothing more than fifteen minutes during his midday light training on Tuesday (November 12) after feeling unwell.

His coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero has revealed that the 21-year-old is unwell and is not 100 percent certain to play his second Group match. The Spaniard’s illness was noticeable during his loss against Casper Ruud in the opening Group match.

Alcaraz hit 26 unforced errors in the match which his Norwegian opponent exploited to win the match 6-1, 7-5. After the loss, he revealed that he arrived at the tournament sick for some days.

The 21-year-old is yet to recover from the unspecified illness and he couldn’t continue his midday practice session. According to Puntodebreak, Alcaraz has been on antibiotics for four days and has trouble breathing easily.

After Alcaraz decided to stop the training and head back to the hotel, Juan Carlos Ferrero opened up about his pupil state. He explained that the former World No. 1 was sick and having trouble breathing.

As soon as he moves a little, he has trouble breathing. His chest is a little tight. A bad time to get sick. We must not anticipate whether he will play or not tomorrow. We have all played in these circumstances. I think he will not get to the point where he will not go on court. It will be difficult for him to be 100% tomorrow.

However, it is important not to write off Alcaraz, who has, on several occasions, risen above difficult circumstances. He will hope his body can fight against the illness ahead of his must-win match against Andrey Rublev on Wednesday (November 12).

Serena Williams’ former coach worried about Carlos Alcaraz at the ATP Finals

Carlos Alcaraz has had a topsy-turvy year. He is currently struggling with form, having won only one of his last four matches. The Spaniard’s shocking defeat against Casper Ruud has raised a lot of questions about his performance.

After the match, Serena Williams‘ ex-coach Rennae Stubbs took to social media to discuss Alcaraz’s performance. The WTA legend revealed that though the 21-year-old was young and would win more Grand Slams, his ability to win free points was a concern to her.

Sometimes Carlos just doesn’t lock it down. He still has a tendency to go for a mental wander. Shots selections are questionable. Don’t worry though y’all he’s still incredible and will win many many majors but on these faster courts not getting free points on serve also hurts him. Anyway, well done the oatmeal stallion.

Alcaraz has claimed four titles this season, including two Grand Slams. He lost to Novak Djokovic in the Paris Olympics final and took home the singles silver medal. His last title came at the China Open last month, where he defeated Jannik Sinner in the final.
