Carlos Alcaraz claimed his fifth career Grand Slam at the French Open after beating Jannik Sinner in a five-set thriller. The Spaniard is due to return to the court at the Queen’s Club Championship, which begins on June 16. But his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, has revealed that he’s not certain that the 22-year-old will play at the grass-court event.
Alcaraz has had a very hectic clay season, which has proven to be a success. The Spaniard opened his clay court account at the Monte Carlo Masters and claimed the ATP Masters 1000 title after beating Lorenzo Musetti. He was hoping to win the Barcelona Open, but he fell short against Holger Rune and then sustained an injury.
The injury forced him out of the Madrid Open but he recovered in time to compete at the Italian Open in Rome. At the tournament, he produced an excellent display to claim the Rome Masters for the first time in his career after beating Sinner in the final. The 22-year-old only had a week to rest before Roland Garros kicked off on May 25.
At the clay-court Grand Slam event, he played three four-set matches and a five-set match in the final. In the final, he had to come from two sets down to beat Sinner and win his second consecutive French Open. Now, he will need just two weeks to rest before the Queen’s Club Championships.
He has played at the tournament twice in his career, including last year’s edition, but after a strenuous clay season, he might skip the tournament and open his grass-court season at the Wimbledon Championship. His coach, Carlos Ferrero, was asked whether Alcaraz will play at Queen’s during an interview with Cadenaser. He revealed:
The plan is to play it, but in a few days we will make a final decision. Mid-tournament, we talked about it, and Carlos told us he was eager to go. After these days of rest, on Thursday or Friday, we will do a test to see how he is physically and emotionally. We will resume specific grass training to fine-tune mobility issues. We will go to Wimbledon with great enthusiasm; Carlos loves playing there.
Alcaraz played at the Queen’s Championships last season despite winning the French Open. But he only won one match before losing to Jack Draper in straight sets in the round of 16. Nonetheless, in 2024, Alcaraz competed in just two clay tournaments compared to four this season.
Juan Carlos Ferrero reveals what Carlos Alcaraz must do while celebrating his Roland Garros win
Carlos Alcaraz said after winning the Roland Garros that he was going to celebrate the title in his best way because of how he won it. However, his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero revealed that he gave him some advice before heading to celebrate the title with his family:

Yesterday I told him to have a good time because he deserved it, but to remember that he is a tennis player. We know how he is, these days suit him well, he’ll come back refreshed and in a good mental state. It’s not just about partying but about disconnecting, not thinking about tennis and being with his friends like any other 22-year-old kid. He’ll return to work with motivation.
Alcaraz has another major task to accomplish this grass-court season. He has to defend the Wimbledon Championship, which he won last year after beating Novak Djokovic in straight sets. If he does win the title, he will surpass Rafael Nadal’s record at the tournament, winning it for the third time in his career.
