Spanish tennis ace Carlos Alcaraz won his maiden French Open title on Sunday as he defeated Alexander Zverev in the 2024 Roland Garros final. It was a tough game for both the players as they played some high-level tennis. Alcaraz reigned supreme in the end, beating Zverev in five sets of 6-3 2-6 5-7 6-1 6-2 and won his third Grand Slam title.
But it was in no way an easy win for the Spaniard as he had his share of struggle. While Alcaraz started the match on a high, winning the first set in a dominant fashion. However, things changed in the next two sets, especially in the third set when the 21-year-old faced problems with his leg.

Alcaraz had to call for the physio and receive treatment before he could resume playing. But that did not help either as Zverev won the third set 7-5 and took a lead. The match seemed to be slipping away from Alcaraz’s grasp. However, the Spaniard activated his “beast” mode and did not allow Zverev to take the upper hand in the next two sets.
The Spaniard won the fourth set 6-1 to throw Zverev offshore. The German could not recover from this blow and ended up conceding the final set 2-6. This meant that Alcaraz won the match and the elusive tite.
Carlos Alcaraz’s coach explains what went wrong for him in the third set
While it seemed like cramps and some physical problems from outside for Carlos Alcaraz in the third set, his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero delved deep into the Spaniard’s troubles. Ferrero revealed that while there were physical problems, Alcaraz also faced problems with his tactics.

The Spaniard’s coach revealed that Alcaraz did not execute the plan that his team constructed in the locker room. While Ferrero did not reveal the intricacies, he did claim that the 21-year-old did not do exactly what was planned.
I saw Carlos a little bit up and down suffering too much, not doing all the things that weโve been talking [about] in the locker room. But at the end I donโt know how he could resist with the physical problems that we had but at the end, win the trophy.Juan Carlos Ferrero said to Eurosport. (H/T: Daily Express)
Nevertheless, Alcaraz survived a scare and did not let his opponent take over despite losing two sets on the trot. The 21-year-old also earned praise from Alexander Zverev who called him a “beast” and an “animal”.
