Novak Djokovic has achieved stellar heights in his career which has made him one of the greatest players to ever grace the court. The former World No.1 is just one Grand Slam away from the player with the most majors in the history of the sport since the Open Era. His friend and former competitor Juan Martin Del Potro believes he can win more Slams.
Djokovic made history in tennis after beating Daniil Medvedev at the 2023 US Open to claim his 24th Grand Slam in New York. The victory tied him with Margaret Court, who leads with the most Slams in the women’s circuit. However, since then, Djokovic has struggled to win another Slam and has been to only one final.
Djokovic looked set to reach the Australian Open final in January, but an injury forced him to retire from his semi-final match against Alexander Zverev. The Serbian has also been seeking to win his 100th career title but has failed to do so. He came close to achieving the milestone at the Miami Open but lost to Jakub Mensik in the final.
Juan Martin Del Potro was asked about whether his friend Djokovic would ever claim the long-awaited 25th Slam. The Argentine legend pointed out that achieving the milestone means so much to Djokovic and that he won more than one Grand Slam.
I think winning a Grand Slam is something personal for him. He can win more Slams. In terms of tennis, he is the best. He has a lot of experience. If he is in good physical condition, he can handle all of that and succeed. It would be great for tennis if he could win another one after so long, like he did in Paris with the Olympic medal. As long as he is active, he is the best.
Juan Martin Del Potro said to Olympics
Djokovic has his eyes set on the French Open in May as he Open his clay court campaign in Madrid. The 37-year-old last won the Roland Garros in 2023 and will be hoping to secure the title this time around.

His newly opened Del Potro Academy in Florida is now his focus as he aims to develop young tennis players to become the best in their generation. When asked if he will become Djokovic’s coach in the future, he revealed that he would be happy to do so on the Serbian’s request.

To be a coach, you need to commit 100% and travel around the world again. I did it for 20 years, I’m tired. However, of course, if Novak asks me to work with him, it would make me very happy (he smiles). I couldn’t say no, but I don’t think it will happen. The door is not completely closed, but I believe the time to be a coach will come later.
Juan Martin Del Potro said
At the Miami Open in March, Del Potro was seen in Djokovic’s stand with his coach Andy Murray. Murray began working as Djokovic’s coach at the start of this season and their partnership has progressed well.
Novak Djokovic gets tough a draw at the Madrid Open
Novak Djokovic has returned to the Madrid Open after a three-year absence. He aims to claim his 100th career title at the ATP Masters 1000 title. He has won the tournament three times in his career but he faces stiff competition from local favorite Carlos Alcaraz, who is batting with an injury concerns.

He will open his Madrid campaign against either Matteo Arnaldi or a qualifier in the second round after earning a first-round bye. He then had a potential contest against Argentine Sebastian Baez in the third round before facing French Ugo Humbert or American Frances Tiafoe in the Round of 16.
If Djokovic scales through to the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open, he could take on Jack Draper or Tommy Paul. After that, there will be a likely meeting against Alcaraz in the semi-finals of the tournament.
