Superstar outfielder Juan Soto recently signed a massive 15-year $765 million contract with the New York Mets. After playing for a year in the Bronx, the 26-year-old is headed to Queens for the 2025 season run.

In his recent introductory press conference on Thursday, Soto and his agent Scott Boras talked about why the Yankees lost in the competition for his services. For Soto, the Mets did not only offer the highest bid, but also had a competitive atmosphere, and welcoming toward players’ families.

Juan Soto is well known for being a family guy. The Mets keeping in mind his needs and desires offered him a free luxury suite at Citi Field and security for family at home and road games.

The contract further provided him with his old No.22 jersey, 4 premium home seats per home game, $500k for MVP, and $1 million for MVP after, as per reports. However, to Soto, his family’s comfort became the prime key to his move.

The decision was made by his whole family being involved and they were comfortable with the new changes. The New York Yankees on the other hand offer suites for player families, but it’s paid. This was not part of their 16-year $760 million offer which might have set off Soto a bit.

I feel like that was really nice coming from him. It was one of the biggest things. They always talk about family, they always talk about sticking together, and that’s one of the things that opened my eyes. That’s when I started thinking about all the love they can give to me and my family.

However, many addressed how the Yankees never had the tradition of offering a free suite to any player. Even Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter paid for their suites during their era.

Juan Soto thanked the fans and the team for everything they did during his time in the Bronx. However, what he envisioned for the next 15 years was something the NY Mets offered. Scott Boras also appreciated how the Yankees went out of their comfort zone to offer the $765 million, but at the end it was something Soto had to decide for himself.

Brian Cashman has “no regrets” on losing Juan Soto after $760 million offer

The New York Yankees executive Brian Cashman talked about how he had no regrets about losing Juan Soto to the Mets in free agency. He believes the Yankees have done enough to woo the outfielder with a 16-year $760 million deal.

Talking about not adding the suite, Cashman said how any player with that amount of money can just buy their own luxury suite instead of that being added to the contract. He explained how none of the past or even present players like Aaron Judge or Gerrit Cole had that liberty and it will remain the same.

I don’t think a suite’s a possession arrow one way or the other…[Not] when you’re making that kind of money. However it gets played out [in media], whether it’s like, ‘The suite was the issue’ or whatever. It’s like: Was it really?

Cashman is already moving on from the Juan Soto saga as the Yankees are adding and trading for players in free agency. Brian Cashman said he has “no regrets” about losing Soto. Now is the high time for the team to “recreate” a brand new lineup before the start of the 2025 season.
