Juan Soto once again found himself in the spotlight on Tuesday. In the game against the Atlanta Braves, the New York Mets’ star did not seem pleased with a strikeout call from the home plate umpire. Pitcher Spencer Strider would later hit back at him, which sparked some wild reaction from MLB fans.
In the heavyweight battle between the two National League East sides, Strider would go up against Soto from the mound. Soto, who had been walked in his previous two at-bats, would find himself having some words with the umpire Adam Hamari in the bottom of the 5th inning.
The Mets were leading the game 3-0 at that point and were trying to add another run. In this matchup between Soto and Strider, the 4-time MLB All-Star worked out a 3-2 count. This at-bat of his came with no runners on base and two outs in the inning.
On the full count pitch, Strider would throw a 96 mph fastball. The ball appeared to have just hit the bottom of the left corner of the strike zone.
Soto was called out on strikes, and the inning was over. The Dominican international was not happy with this call and would argue with the official behind the plate. Strider on the other hand, would see this and repeated a 5-word message while walking back to the benches.
It’s right down the middle.

The Braves would turn the game around in the very next inning. They scored 5 runs in the top of the 6th inning before adding 2 more insurance runs in the 8th inning. They eventually ended up as 7-4 winners with Strider getting the win.
Social media reacts to Juan Soto arguing over strikeout call
Ever since his massive $765 million move to the New York Mets in December 2024, Juan Soto has often found himself getting trolled by fans. On Tuesday, the former New York Yankees star got ridiculed once again by social media users.

Fans on X would take another swipe at Soto as he tried to have a word with the home plate umpire. One user wrote, “Soto is such a bust” while slamming him. There were some, though, who did take his side and argued that the pitch was not right down the middle as Spencer Strider claimed.
Check out that and some other top reactions from X regarding this incident below:

How do people not realize that Strider is making fun of Soto?

Soto complains about every single strike call he gets and strider is basically doing to opposite of that by claiming it’s “right in the middle”
Soto just can’t handle striking out like every other player that does it.

Hate to gripe and complain about everything.

While Strider got the win and improved his season record to 3-5 with a 4.07 ERA, Soto went 0-for-2 in this game with 2 walks and struggled to make a positive impact once again. The outfielder is now hitting with a .253 batting average this year with 17 home runs and 43 RBI.
Juan Soto and NY Mets lose for 10th time in 11 games
After a bright start to the 2025 season, the New York Mets have suffered a massive dip in form. Following the loss on Tuesday, Juan Soto‘s team lost for the 10th time in 11 games.

Following a 4-3 win over the Washington Nationals, the Mets were left with a 45-24 record. They had just completed a 2nd straight series sweep, having previously swept the Colorado Rockies. Since that win against the Nationals, things have gone downhill for the Mets.
They went on a 7-game losing run and got swept by the Tampa Bay Rays and the Atlanta Braves. In a divisional matchup against the Phillies, they lost 2 out of the 3 games, and lost the top spot in the NL East standings.
The loss on Tuesday was their 3rd straight defeat, which has now left them with a 46-34 record. Despite that, the Mets are just 1.5 games behind the Phillies in the race for the top spot.
The Mets were once 21 games over .500 on June 12th and had the best record in all of baseball.

It would take an unprecedented collapse for this season to go completely down the drain.
The team will now be looking to avoid a 3rd straight series loss with a win on Wednesday. After two games against the Braves, the team will take on the Pittsburgh Pirates next.
