Juan Soto is not having the best of times in the batter’s box at the moment. The $765 million man of the New York Mets has seen a slump in form. On Friday, he made a candid remark this.

Last year, Soto was one of the top hitters in the league. The Dominican International smashed 41 home runs in the regular season with the New York Yankees while batting at a .288 average.

Since his mega deal with the Yankees’ crosstown rivals, Soto has struggled for form. In the game on Friday against the struggling Colorado Rockies, the 4-time MLB All-Star broke a long hitless drought.

In the third inning of the game, Soto broke the 0-for-17 streak he was on with an RBI double. The Mets ended up winning the game 4-1, giving some confidence to Soto as well.

While speaking to the reporters, Soto admitted that he was not playing well and had not contributed to the team. However, he also expressed optimism about getting back to his best form.

I know I’ve been struggling, and I haven’t been there for them, but I will be… It’s a matter of time, we don’t know when it’s gonna come through, but I’m going to keep working.

So far, Soto has batted with a .229 average and has an OBP of .355. He has managed just 8 home runs and 26 RBI in the meantime. Given the caliber he has, many expected his numbers to be a bit higher than this.

He’s going to get through it, he’s too good of a hitter. Obviously good night for him… it was good to see Soto finally getting some good results there.

In a press conference before the game, Mets’ President of Baseball Operations, David Stearns, admitted that Soto was probably trying a ‘bit too‘ much. However, he backed Soto and claimed that it was ‘natural‘ for a player like him to try and improve.

During those two series, Soto was questioned for his ‘hustling‘. He was a bit slow to jog to the first base against both of this teams, which led to severe backlash from fans.

Former Red Sox star and his countryman, Pedro Martinez would later come to his support and defend him. The MLB HOF expressed that he understand what it feels to be highest paid player in the league and the heavy expectation that comes with it.

Juan Soto: I was once the highest paid player and it took me a while to adjust. Nobody thinks about the human inside the uniform. There are things that can get you distracted. We forget how young he is. #mlbontbs

The Mets star currently has an AAV of $51 million due to the $765 million contract he signed. This could increase to $55 million if he does not opt out of his deal after the 2029 season.
