Juan Soto and his side, the New York Mets, are not having a good time on the field. On Thursday, the National League East team lost for their 9th time in their last 10 games, leaving them in a vulnerable position in the race for the playoffs.

Last week, Soto and the Mets found themselves under the spotlight as they almost got no-hit by the Cleveland Guardians. While Soto did break the no-hit bid of Gavin Williams with a solo home with just two outs remaining in the bottom of the ninth inning, his side still ended up losing 4-1 and got swept.

Soto would later get criticized for his attitude in this game. Former NFL star Boomer Esiason blasted him for smiling while jogging around the bases and urged him to become a leader like Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani.

The Mets would then end up getting swept by the in-form Milwaukee Brewers. In the series opener against the Atlanta Braves, the Mets blew up a 5-1 lead, but eventually managed to win 13-5 in the end.

In the second game of the series, once again, they blew a huge lead. This time, they blew a 6-0 lead and lost 11-6 despite Juan Soto slamming his 29th home run of the season.

On Thursday, the Braves edged out their division rivals again. A 4-3 win saw them take the series and hand the Mets their 9th loss in their last 10 games. This loss also saw their lead for the final Wild Card spot in the National League cut down to 0.5.

The 2nd half of the season has been a mixed one for the Mets. After 2 losses against the Cincinnati Reds, the Mets went on a 7-game winning run.

Since the trade deadline though, things have started to go wrong for them. They are 2-13 in the last 15 games, which has seen their record go from 62-44 to 64-57

Both New York sides started the season in strong fashion, but have fallen off in recent weeks. The two sides currently hold the final wild-card spot in their respective leagues.

However, Yankees announcer John Sterling thinks their crosstown rivals have a better chance of making it to the Fall Classic than the Yanks.

The Yankees have a lot of home run power. What they need is very good pitching, because I think they have a good enough bullpenI think the Mets can go to the World Series. They have a terrific team… I’d say the Mets have a better chance than the Yanks of going to the World Series.

John Sterling said on WFAN

The Mets will be hoping to end their barren run with a positive performance against the Seattle Mariners. Meanwhile, the Yankees will take on the St. Louis Cardinals after failing to complete the sweep of the Minnesota Twins.
