“He should reset the market,” $600 million Juan Soto contract gets cosign from Jack Flaherty
Dodgers now-free agent Jack Flaherty claims Juan Soto’s contract shouldn’t be anything less than $600 million in free agency.

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher and current free agent Jack Flaherty claims Juan Soto should not sign any contract worth less than $600 million. He claimed that Soto’s contract should be a wake-up call for other players in free agency and a game-changer for the future.
Last year, two-way star Shohei Ohtani set the bar for the franchise players by signing a 10-year $700 million deal with the Dodgers. Considering how he can play both as batter and pitcher, Flaherty believes Soto represents the other “normal” players.
In a discussion with Keyshawn Johnson of ‘All Facts No Brakes’ podcast, Jack Flaherty compared Soto to Bryce Harper. He said Harper signed the $330 million with the Philadelphia Phillies back in 2019.
Compared to then and now, Juan Soto should at least sign a long-term deal of $600 million, given that he’s only 26. He has long years to contribute to any team and his records validate his resume even more.
For a while now, Soto’s price in the free market has risen up to $600 million with many expecting it to surpass Ohtani’s $700 million. Even if he does not make that jump, he is expected to surpass his AAV with starting digits in the fives.
Top prospective teams competing for Juan Soto at free agency
The top three teams for Juan Soto in free agency are the New York Mets, the New York Yankees, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Others in the race are the Washington Nationals, San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies, and Toronto Blue Jays.
According to Soto’s agent Scott Boras, the Mets are “aggressively” pursuing the 4x All-Star and are scheduled to meet him in Southern California. Following their meet, Yankees’ Hal Steinbrenner has also scheduled a flight in the next week and a half.
On the other hand, if the Dodgers are keen on pursuing Japanese ace Roki Sasaki, they’ll have a tough time adding Soto to the lineup too. There is also the question of whether Soto will want to move back West or not.
"I think the Mets are obviously trying to get to their goal, which is winning a world championship. I think they've been very clear about pursuing this aggressively in the market."

Chances are he’ll prefer to stay in NY, given how he has time and again spoken on his connection to the city. But nothing is official yet. He is keen on meeting and speaking with all prospects in the free agency before penning a contract.
