Since the start of the 2024 free agency, superstar outfielder Juan Soto’s market price has continuously raised the stakes. Starting at $600 million for at least 14 years to 15 years to a whopping $750 million may also be possible.
As per ESPN’s Buster Olney and MLB insider Jeff Passan, Juan Soto’s contract can reach $750 million for 15 years. However, as of now, it’s all in controversies. It is expected that Soto will reach $50 million in AAV this offseason.
The superstar and his agent Scott Boras have been busy scheduling and handling meetings with various teams this past few weeks. The frontrunners of the race are – the NY Yankees, NY Mets, Boston Red Sox, LA Dodgers, and Toronto Blue Jays.
Mets owner Steve Cohen even reiterated that he’ll raise $50 million over any offer made by other teams. Whether he’ll really do so is yet to be seen but when it comes to Cohen there’s a high possibility of it happening. He is known for his deep pockets in MLB.

To top his offer, Soto’s former team NY Yankees will need to put their everything into retaining their player. Furthermore, as per the latest updates, the Red Sox are seeking another meeting with the outfielder and Boras with at least more than $600 million on the line.

On the other hand, while the Dodgers already have a star-studded lineup, they won’t shy away from snatching the 4x All-Star to the West. No matter which team he ends up signing, the Yankees will have a hard time finding a replacement in the lineup.
NY Yankees backup plans for Juan Soto
Juan Soto’s bidding war has reached its peak and by the end of Winter Meetings, he’ll be donning a team’s shirt. Which team it’ll be is yet to be seen. According to MLB insider Mark Feinsand, Soto and Scott Boras “aren’t signing without taking that final deal back to the Yankees.”
However, NY Post’s Jon Heyman cleared the misconception saying the pinstripes have not been informed of any such thing. Over the season, Soto has talked about his love for the New York fans and city, but whether that’ll land him in the Bronx or the neighboring city is yet to be seen.
Just to clear up something I think might have been overplayed thanks to dreaded aggregation: The Yankees have NOT been told they will be given a last chance to match any high offer. #soto

With uncertainties swirling around, the NY Yankees have made Plan B to secure their lineup for the 2025 race. While it’s hard to find a replacement for Juan Soto, they will get the chance to invest the $600 million to add a few players to the team.
Currently, they have admitted to being focused on the pitching market where names like Corbin Burnes and Max Fried are popping up. Manager Aaron Boone once even talked about his interest in Japanese rookie ace Roki Sasaki in free agency.
The situation is quite tricky with all sorts of controversies and rumors gaining spotlight prior to the Winter Meetings. No matter which team he signs up with will undoubtedly cause an uproar in the MLB world.
