The slump in the form of the New York Mets continued on Saturday. They blew a 2-0 lead late in the game and lost 3-2 against the Texas Rangers at Citi Field. After the game, Juan Soto admitted that things are not going their way and claimed that he has no answers regarding this slump.

The Mets have suffered a major downfall after starting the season hot. At one stage, they had the best record in the league at 45-24. They would then go on a long losing run, which saw them sliding down fast.

On Thursday, the team lost 6-4 against the Philadelphia Phillies after going 4-0 up in the first inning. This loss saw the Phillies complete a 4-game sweep of them and seemingly ended the National League East division race.

Following an 8-3 loss on Friday, the Mets imploded late on Saturday. The Rangers scored twice in the 8th inning to tie up the game and took the lead in the 9th inning to complete the turnaround. The hosts were unable to muster any more runs and dropped their 8th successive game.

This loss came on a day when Soto scripted MLB history. In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Dominican international thumped his 40th home run of the season to extend his team’s lead to 2-0.

This home run saw him become just the third player in MLB history to have 40 home runs, 30 stolen bases, and 100 walks in a season. The other two players to do this are Jeff Bagwell and Barry Bonds.

While speaking with the reporters after this crushing defeat, Soto expressed that his team has “no excuses” for losing this many games.

I don’t know. We’re definitely trying to figure out what’s going on. We’re playing our a** off every night it’s just not going in our way. It’s just crazy how the games have been going, but like I said we just gotta keep grinding and keep moving forward. There’s no excuses.

Juan Soto said as per SNY

Soto’s team is not out of playoff contention just yet. With the loss of the San Francisco Giants against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the New York side is still in the final spot of the NL Wild Card standings. However, they are just 0.5 games ahead of the Giants and need to get the results going their way if they were to play baseball in October.

MLB insider recently blasted Mets for their massive collapse

The New York Mets have suffered a massive collapse. The team, which had once held the best record in the entire league, lost its 8th straight game on Saturday. An MLB insider recently blasted them for this run of form.

At that moment, nothing seems to be working for the Mets. The team has been unable to close out games when leading.

In the series opener against the Texas Rangers on Friday, the team’s offense cooled down. They would struggle against their former pitcher Jacob DeGrom.

In the middle of the game, MLB insider Jeff Passan took to his X account to make his feelings known. The ESPN insider claimed that it was not a collapse but a “disintegration” at the moment.

The New York Mets, losers of six straight, are down 6-0 and facing Jacob deGrom. Since starting 45-24 and owning the best record in MLB, the Mets are 31-47, better than only the Rockies, Twins and Nationals. This isn’t a collapse. It’s a disintegration.

The 2-time World Series winners are now on the verge of getting swept again. If they lose on Sunday, it will be their 9th consecutive loss. Things do not get any easier for them after that, as they face the San Diego Padres, who are trying to chase down the Dodgers in the NL West division race.
