Juan Soto returned to Petco Park this past week as the New York Mets took on the San Diego Padres. During his return to one of his former teams, he received a hostile reception and was booed by the fans. The 4-time All-Star would brush off that jeering and expressed that he was unsurprised by that.
The Dominican international has become a huge villain for some fans following his enormous 15-year $765 million deal with the Mets in December last year. Before this deal he would spend one season with the Yankees.
He made his way to the Yankees, though through a trade from the Padres. After being traded by the Washington Nationals in the 2nd half of the 2022 season, Soto would spend 1 and a half seasons in San Diego with the Padres. He was then traded away to the Yankees in a blockbuster 7-player trade in December 2023.
During the 2 games against the Padres, Soto would get booed by the fans inside Petco Park when he stepped up to the plate. Following the game, he acknowledged that the fans only praise their own players and expressed that they were sad because he was not there any more.
They’re sad I’m gone

Soto received similar treatment from the Yankees fans back in May when he made his long-awaited return to Yankee Stadium during the Subway Series. He was heavily booed when he stepped up to the plate for the first time against his former team.
In his response, he would tip his hat to the crowd. Later, when he went into the right field, the “Bleacher Creatures” section would turn their backs on him.
Juan Soto suffered an injury and was forced to exit the game early against the Padres
Tuesday was not the best of days at the office for Juan Soto. Following some boos from the crowd, he was forced to make an early exit as he suffered an injury.

With his team down 1-0 in the 4th inning, Soto stepped up into the batter’s box to face Ryan Bergert. On a 0-2 pitch, the 26-year-old suffered a foot concussion after fouling off the pitch.
The Mets star would hobble for a while and had some trouble putting weight on his foot. Trainers would later come out to assist him. While he completed his bat and grounded out later, he did not return to the field later on.

In the two games against his former team, Soto has gone 0-for-6. For the year, Soto is batting with a .248 average with 25 home runs and 62 RBIs.
Juan Soto’s X-rays comes back negative following game against Padres
Juan Soto suffered a blow on Tuesday as he accidentally fouled off the ball to his leg. After leaving the game due to this, there were some who were left concerned regarding him. Fortunately, his X-rays have come back negative.

As per MLB insider Anthony DiComo, the Mets’ management is now confident that nothing is broken for him and that he will be back within a matter of days.

The last thing the Mets want at the moment is a long-term injury to a key player. Despite going 0-for-6 in his two games against the Padres, Soto is one of the top performers of the team.
The Mets will enter the game on Wednesday hoping to end a 2-game losing run and avoid getting swept. Before this series, they were on a 7-game winning run, which included series sweeps against the Los Angeles Angels and the San Francisco Giants.
