On Tuesday night, the best hitters of the 2024 season were honored with the Silver Slugger Award. One of them was Juan Soto, who achieved this award after having an outstanding season with the New York Yankees.

After joining the team through a trade from the San Diego Padres, Soto made an instant impact on the Yankees. His performances throughout the season helped the Yanks reach the World Series for the first time in 15 years.

As per official stats, Soto finished the 2024 regular season with 41 home runs while batting in 109 runs. His batting average of .288 showed his consistency at the plate, whereas in the postseason, Soto batted with a high average of .327 with 4 home runs and 9 RBIs as he led the offense of the Yankees.

This is Soto’s fifth Silver Slugger Award win of his decorated career. As per MLB, he is now just the second player after Mike Trout to claim a fifth Silver Slugger award for the regular season before turning 26 years old. All of these have thus made him the top free agent of this offseason.

Soto, though, is not the only Yankee star to win this award this year. His teammate Aaron Judge also took home this honor. The Yankee captain once again crossed the 50-home run mark while hitting 58 home runs and collecting 144 RBIs during the postseason.

Soto and Judge will also go head-to-head for the American League MVP award. Given Judge’s performances in the regular season, many are expecting him to take home this prestigious award ahead of Soto and Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals on November 21.

Last week, reports emerged that New York Mets owner Steve Cohen had scheduled a meeting with Soto and his agent Scott Boras in California. The New York Yankees are also expected to meet him in the upcoming days.

The Blue Jays will have the chance to land a good first impression on him. The Canadian outfit is reported to go strongly for him after missing out on Shohei Ohtani last year.

Soto will then sit down with the Boston Red Sox to discuss his future. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants do not have a meeting set up with him yet. It remains to be seen whether these two Californian teams will join in on the race later or not.
