Superstar free agent Juan Soto finally pens a 15-year $765 million deal with the New York Yankees cross-town rivals New York Mets. This contract is deemed as Major League Baseball’s largest deal in history.
Since the end of the World Series, Soto has been in the spotlight in free agency. With all the theories, controversies, and rumors surrounding him, he finally puts it all to rest. The ex-Yankees player will now join the Mets for their 2025 season run.
It was expected that he’ll join any one of the New York teams as the bids from both of them were around $710 million to $750 million. However, NY Mets owner Steve Cohen got what he wanted. He is known for his deep pockets. Earlier in the offseason, he announced he’ll up $50 million on top of any team offers for Soto.

Cohen not only topped the charts for Juan Soto but also ranked the highest payscale in MLB history. Soto will get the largest AAV of $50 million a year. He surpassed Los Angeles Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani’s $700 million deal for 10 years.
What does it mean for the NY Yankees to lose Juan Soto to rivals?
With Juan Soto making his way to the Queens, the New York Yankees will now have to start working on their Plan B. They were looking into pitching market to strengthen the lineup in case Soto ended up elsewhere.
According to industry rumors, the Yankees may now add either pitcher Max Fried or Corbin Burnes from the free agency. They also seemed to be listed among the interested teams in Teoscar Hernandez’s pursuit. However, with Hernandez interested in Dodgers, things may get tricky.
Where the team will go from here will be interesting to see as Juan Soto was a key member of the Yankees’ drive to the World Series. His relationship with his teammates, especially Aaron Judge were points many believed he’d sign with the pinstripes.

Regardless with the major story done, all the rest of MLB team’s attention will be directed towards the remaining players in the free agency. Soto’s talent can undoubtedly boost any team to World Series caliber, but how the Yankees will counterattack is yet to be seen.
