Assistant pitching coach Desi Druschel is set to join the New York Mets after being part of the New York Yankees since 2019. After leading a minor league team for pitching development, he was promoted to the major league staff in 2022.
Druschel will be working beside Mets pitching coach Jeremy Hefner. He’ll also reunite with manager Carlos Mendoza, with whom he worked at the Bronx during the 2022-23 season. He will also meet with one of his former Iowa players, Eric Jagers.
Desi Druschel boosted his resume with working experience from high school to college to pro ball and finally joining the Yankees on their journey. His addition is one of the Mets aims this season from the Yankees, as they are also aiming for Juan Soto‘s acquisition.

Fans on social media commented on how Soto would be the next Yankee to join the Mets, since he had a close relationship with Druschel. Furthermore, NY Mets owner Steve Cohen will also be meeting Soto and his agent Scott Boras soon in California.
Cohen is not afraid to spend millions, and maybe even $600 million for Soto, which is the current “whisper number” in the free agency. The Yankees are also determined to not lose their ex-player to their divisional rivals, but the verdict will ultimately be given by Soto.
Social media reacts to Desi Druschel’s addition to the Mets
Aaron Boone, in a video call on Monday, revealed that there’ll be a few staff changes. One of them seems to be Desi Druschel’s leave from the Bronx. As for now, the other staff changes are kept under cover. But according to Boone, there’ll be “one or two” more changes.
Fans on social media had mixed reactions to Desi Druschel’s addition to the team. One X user noted, “Yayy more Yankee scraps,” while another added, “This likely won’t be the only defection from the Yankees to the Mets this off-season, Soto is next”

The changes in staff are going not only on the Mets’ end but also for the pinstripes. Not only the staff, but the biggest difference makers will be the addition of the players from free agency. Currently, Soto seems to be on the top radar for both teams.
