Juan Soto finally set himself apart from the rest of the MLB world by signing the highest contract in the league. He’ll now call Queens his home for the next 15 years after his $765 million signing with the New York Mets.

Even before his signing, he was considered the richest in MLB after the free agency was over. His estimated count rose significantly from $600 million to $700 million + over the past few days. With this, he surpassed Los Angeles Dodgers Shohei Ohtani’s contract.

Just a year after Ohtani’s bombshell signing, Soto became the highest-paid AAV player with $51 million in his pockets. Ohtani signed a 10-year $700 million deal with the Dodgers, although much of it is deferred.

Juan Soto vs. Shohei Ohtani: Salary

New York Mets outfielder Juan Soto penned a 15-year $765 million contract, Major League Baseball’s largest deal. While the two parties have yet to make a physical deal, the contract entails a $75 million signing bonus with a full no-trade clause.

He also has an opt-out clause and no deferred money. However, the Mets can void the opt-out clause after the 2029 season by boosting his annual average value from $51 million to $55 million. Furthermore, if the Mets do that, Soto will have a total contract value of $805 million for 15 years with a $55.66 million AAV.

Shohei Ohtani, on the other hand, signed a 10-year $700 million deal. Although Ohtani’s average salary of $70 million is higher, a huge piece of it will be deferred each year. The LA Dodgers have already started gaining from the deferred amount.

While they have refused to comment further on the details, industry sources believe it’s somewhere around $120 million. It includes corporate sponsorships, lucrative deals, ticket sales, and endorsement deals with Japanese companies after Ohtani’s signing.

Juan Soto vs. Shohei Ohtani: Net Worth

Following Juan Soto’s historic signing with the Mets, his estimated net worth is $100 million, with $51 million AAV. The numbers will either remain the same or increase in time with an opt-out clause in action. His total number of signings dwarfed many sports personalities, like – Jaylen Brown, Stephen Curry, Patrick Mahomes, Jayson Tatum, and others.

Shohei Ohtani’s net worth in 2024 seemed to be around $50 million and rising. He was the first to be the MLB’s highest-paid player, but after the outfielder’s signing, the tables turned.

Juan Soto vs. Shohei Ohtani: Endorsements

Apart from Juan Soto’s $765 million contract, he also gets $3 million to $5 million from his endorsement deals. While the figure may differ considering it’s only an estimate, the 26-year-old has signed up with giant companies. Some of them include – Under Armour, Wilson, Sorare, New Era, and Topps.

Ohtani is estimated to get $60 million from endorsements and sponsorships. He gets sponsorships and endorsements from Fanatics, Hugo Boss, Ito En, Japan Airlines, Konami, KOSE Corp., Kowa Company Ltd., Mitsubishi ufj fin grp (MTU), New Balance, Porsche, Salesforce, Seiko Watch Corporation, Topps, DIPS, Rapsodo.

While Ohtani has more endorsements and sponsorships than Soto, the latter surpasses the Japanese two-way star in the contract deal. Both are rising stars in MLB and fans’ expectations from them are equally high.
