Jude Bellingham, despite being limited to midfield in his days at Dortmund has assumed a different role at Real Madrid. The Englishman is often spotted as the player being highest up while Madrid goes forward and falls back throughout last season. However, Carlo Ancelotti decided to deploy the player in his ‘original’ position this season.

This directly contributed to a steep drop in his goal contributions, both in La Liga and the Champions League. As of now, Bellingham is yet to score a single goal this season, with his only contribution being an assist against Deportivo Alaves. Ancelotti also spoke to the press about his form, downplaying his apparent difficulties in finding the net.

Even though Ancelotti acknowledged the fact that Bellingham hasn’t been able to score like last season, he put emphasis on how the Englishman has been putting in work and making sacrifices for the team.

As things stand, Bellingham is in contention to start for Madrid up front against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Fans laugh at Jude Bellingham after new position doesn’t work out

Even though Jude Bellingham is a midfielder on paper, his in-game position often contradicts this opinion. A fan commented that Bellingham couldn’t even last five games as a proper midfielder and gave up before even trying. Another added that Real Madrid fans should simply accept that Bellingham isn’t a good ‘midfielder’.

A few Barcelona fans called for an end to comparisons with star midfielder Pedri and stated that they’ll come out on top against Madrid in the El Clasico. Many spammed ‘striker allegations’ at the 21-year-old although Madrid supporters concluded that the club will return to the 4-4-2 formation. Many blamed Carlo Ancelotti for Bellingham’s drop in form compared to last year.

Real are currently second in the Spanish top flight, trailing by three points to rivals Barcelona. The Los Blancos are also on the verge of breaking Barcelona’s unbeaten record of 42 games in La Liga. Ancelotti also made headlines by demanding more goals from their new No.9 Kylian Mbappe.
