Bayern Munich took on Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night to give rise to one of the most exciting UCL games in recent times. Despite enjoying the greater share of chances, shots and possession, the Los Blancos clinched a late equalizer to ensure that there was all left to play for the second leg.
While Harry Kane managed to get on the scoresheet, Madrid man Jude Bellingham tried his best to make sure that he didn’t do so. Clips circulating on social media shows the Englishman trying to distract his international teammate as he gets ready to take the penalty. His efforts to distract him were futile, as the Bayern No.9 expertly placed his penalty to his left, sending Andriy Lunin the wrong way.
Videos show Bellingham approaching Kane as he bends down to keep the ball at the spot. Even though Kane remains focused on his target, Bellingham made sure that he was heard by the opposition striker.
The match official immediately intervened to lead Bellingham away from the spot before Kane made it 2-1 for the hosts.
Fans react to Jude Bellingham’s ‘dirty’ tactics
While penalties are all about mind games and distraction, Jude Bellingham trying to do the same hasn’t sat well with many. A fan commented that this is the exact reason why opposition fans do not respect Bellingham.
Many were surprised that Bellingham would try to do the same with his international teammate and captain! A few laughed at how Kane paid no heed to Bellingham’s efforts.
Another fan however, didn’t make a big deal out of the same and stated that this happens almost in every game. While a few approved his efforts to distract Kane, they dismissed all shouts of Jude Bellingham deserving the next Ballon d’Or. A supporter said that Bellingham just wanted to be seen on camera, even if it wasn’t with the ball.
After an underwhelming performance against Bayern, Bellingham also got made fun of for the same. As it stands, Harry Kane is the Champions League top scorer, together with Kylian Mbappe and Luuk de Jong. Bellingham’s 4 goals and as many assists are impressive too, however not as good to receive Ballon d’Or shouts and ‘blind’ praise, said a fan.
