There wasn’t anything ‘shiny’ about starboy Jude Bellingham‘s performance against Denmark in England’s second group-stage game at the Euros. The Real Madrid starlet was far from his best as his performance mirrored that of his teammates in a ‘disappointing’ result on Thursday night.
The Three Lions started brightly, but it was difficult to not see how they let their opponents get the better of them with every chance they created. England started the game with an impressive goal from captain Harry Kane, who poked the ball in from close range in the 17th minute.
That would be the last time England really threatened the opposition goal as Denmark turned up the gears. Even Champions League winner Bellingham was unable to inspire a come back against the men in red.
His numbers following the game went viral, as opposition fans trolled the player for his mediocre performance. In the 90 minutes he played, the No. 10 failed to make a single goal contribution, lost 10 duels and only made a handful of touches in the opposition box. He also failed to create any significant chances for his side as they dropped points against Danish Dynamite.
Fans react to Jude Bellingham’s mediocre performance against Denmark
Many expected Jude Bellingham to shine against Denmark in England’s second group stage match at the Euros. However, in contrast to expectations, the player was largely uninvolved in his side’s attack and failed to contribute with a goal or assist over 90 minutes. Following the game, a fan commented that he was a ‘system’ player who only thrived at Real Madrid.
Many were quick to call him overrated and undeserving of all the hype in recent weeks. Ahead of the Euros, Adidas released a wonderful video for Bellingham captioned ‘Hey Jude’. A supporter claimed that English media hyped up the wrong player. Supporters complained that Cole Palmer and Kobbie Mainoo deserved starts over the Real Madrid man in upcoming games.
However, a bunch of supporters were convinced that media will be kinder to the No.10 as opposed to how they criticized Phil Foden and Declan Rice. One fan sarcastically found solace in the fact that Bellingham was brilliant in post-match interviews and will effortlessly answer questions thrown at him by reporters and the press. England play their final group stage game against Slovenia on the 25th.
