Despite an unbelievable debut season for Real Madrid, Jude Bellingham ‘failed’ to replicate his success for The Three Lions. Bellingham was reduced to just three goals contributions in seven games as his side scraped their way to the final of UEFA Euro 2024. Despite scoring one of the goals of the tournament against Slovakia, fans expected a lot more from the young superstar.
Gareth Southgate‘s side in general were criticized for their overtly defensive style of play, despite having some of the best attacking talents in all of Europe. As England faced off against Luis de la Fuente‘s Spain in the final, fans were confident as to who was deserving of the Player of the Tournament award.
Manchester City’s Rodri was a delight to watch as he bossed the midfield for La Roja in all six games he played at the tournament. A viral video on social media shows Jude Bellingham storming into the dressing room as soon as Rodri was announced as the Player of the Tournament.
Despite coming off injured at the start of the second half in the final, his performance throughout the competition was enough to hand him the POTT.

It is safe to say that Rodri’s performances at Euro 2024 were deserving of him being named as the Player of the Tournament. However, while many claim that Jude Bellingham failed to step up for his nation when it mattered the most, he himself appeared to be disappointed when Rodri’s name was announced instead of his own.
A fan laughed at how Bellingham had the audacity to even think about the award given the way he and his teammates reached the final. Another fan claimed that Bellingham’s PR department wasn’t as strong for The Three Lions as it was for Real Madrid. The trolls weren’t done yet, as posts mocking his sense of pride and ‘delusion’ also racked up likes on football X.
Fans added that Bellingham realized the Ballon d’Or wasn’t swinging his way as soon as Rodri’s name was called and hence, the reaction. Rival fans claimed that Bellingham was slowly turning into the average Real Madrid fan, haughty and insufferable at the same time. A supporter added that his ‘main character syndrome’ will come in the way of him adjusting to the needs of his team and teammates.
