Real Madrid and its players have been on the receiving end of criticism following a rather controversial evening against Espanyol in La Liga. Jude Bellingham took center stage in the incident as the Englishman appeared to lose his cool when reacting to the game official. Bellingham was seen calling the referee a ‘piece of sh*t‘ after he opted to make a call against the hosts.

Bellingham was shown yellow for protesting a free kick call against his side with Vinicius Jr. also letting the emotions pour. The camera cut to Bellingham as he walked away and captured the 21-year-old mutter the expletive against the official.

Even though there has been no comment by the RFEF or La Liga, fans are calling for the player to be strictly penalized for the same. This is not the first time Bellingham has lashed out against match officials and opponents, as supporters recalled his ‘vulgar’ gesture after scoring against Slovakia.

Bellingham was also directly involved in the comeback as he set up Dani Carvajal for the equalizer. The player is yet to make a single goal contribution in all competitions for the men in white.

Fans on social media were not impressed with Jude Bellingham as the Madrid man let out his anger on the referee. A fan joked that Bellingham wasn’t penalized for the same because he lashed out against his ‘teammate’. Many called him shameless and that he’ll never win an individual award because of his behavior. Also many called for match bans and disciplinary action and laughed at how players from other teams would fare under similar conditions.

Several fans called out his extreme PR and protection by the media. Many were surprised that he still continued to play and wasn’t sent off for his actions as Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski was handed a three-match ban for ‘touching his nose’ in comparison to how Bellingham was let off unpunished. A few said that Bellingham’s apparent shoulder injury was deserved for the way he responded to the official.

Bellingham has made it to the 30-man Ballon d’Or shortlist alongside Vinicius Jr. & Kylian Mbappe. The forward is an undisputed starter under Ancelotti and is yet to reach his best form after recovering from a muscle injury in training. Bellingham has gradually started making defensive contributions as well, with the player winning all but one of his ground duels and completing three interceptions.
