WATCH: Judges give controversial decision to Caio Borralho despite illegal knee towards Gadzhi Omargadzhiev
Caio Borralho ends Gadzhi Omargadzhiev
UFC Vegas 51: Luque vs Muhammad just took place inside the UFC APEX facility in Las Vegas, Nevada. One of the fights that was entertaining as well as controversial was the co-main event fight between Caio Borralho vs Gadzhi Omargadzhiev.
The fight started with both fighters maintaining distance and looking for openings to attack. From the get-go, Borralho looked confident and made it clear that he was there to win. At the start of the second round, Borralho landed some nasty shots along with a successful takedown. On the ground, the Brazilian also took control on the ground and didn’t give Omargadzhiev any chance to recover. In the third round, Omargadzhiev looked desperate to land a heavy punch but missed the opportunity.
As the fight continued, both fighters tried their best to get a hold of each other. After that, Borralho landed a solid knee to the head and the fight was immediately stopped by the referee. Omargadzhiev took some time recover and the ringside doctor came to check on him. The Russian failed to continue the fight and the fight was stopped

UFC Vegas 51: Caio Borralho’s controversial win against Gadzhi Omargadzhiev
After landing that knee to the head, the fight stopped and it went to the judges to decide the winner. And after three rounds, the judges decided the fight 29-27 in the favour of Caio Borralho via a technical decision.
The decision was controversial as the fight was illegal as Omargadzhiev’s one hand was on the ground. However, the referee decided to ignore the knee as it looked accidental and was not intentional. The MMA community didn’t take the decision lightly as they went crazy on the internet. Fans believed that the result was unfair and that Omargadzhiev should have won the fight.
One of the major reasons for such reaction could be the already pent up annoyance of fight fans at UFC judges from UFC 273. During the last PPV event of UFC, two fights were highly controversial and the results were not fully accepted. Some fans claimed both the Chimaev vs Burns and Yan vs Sterling fights were not scored accurately.
As long as there is MMA there will be cases like this where fighters and fans might not accept what the judges decide. But in the end, there’s nothing much one can do as if the fight went to the judges then their decision is final.
