Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 7 game ended on a disappointing note as wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster has been officially ruled out due to his hamstring injury for next week’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday.

Following Sunday’s victory, the Chiefs initially thought it was a bruise, making his return questionable. On Monday, head coach Andy Reid gave the official update on the situation, confirming Smith-Schuster’s hamstring injury. He also shared that the wide receiver has been officially ruled out for Week 8.

Smith-Schuster injured his hamstring a couple of days before the anticipated Super Bowl rematch against the San Francisco 49ers during the practice on Thursday. Since the team didn’t think it to be major, they made him participate in Sunday’s game. However, he couldn’t proceed beyond the third quarter when he left the field with his return questionable.

With the Pro Bowler receiver out, the Chiefs are left with Xavier Worthy, Mecole Hardman, Skyy Moore, and Justin Watson, heading for the upcoming game against their biggest conference rivals. After the hardship the Chiefs went through regarding their receiving squad–ranked the worst in the league last season, they made the right moves in the offseason by bringing in top targets for quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The major credit for their six-game winning streak goes to the receiving squad, which has also compensated for star tight end Travis Kelce’s underwhelming performance throughout the season.

Compared to the Chiefs’ wide receivers’ squad, Smith-Schuster is the oldest excluding Watson as he is currently in his eighth season playing in the NFL. That’s why, his teammates, especially the 21-year-old Worthy often treat him like a veteran, probably out of his form.

The Super Bowl champion shared that the rookie wide receiver affectionately refers to him as “unc”, short for ‘uncle’, as ESPN’s Adam Teicher reported.

Xavier’s always made fun of me, like, ‘Man, unc man, I don’t know if you still got it.’

However, instead of being offended by the funny jabs from his teammates, the 27-year-old loves being a mentor to the young receivers and has embraced his role in the Chiefs with all his heart. He often gives the young receivers in Kansas City tips to read the opposing defenses and guides them to avoid getting caught in their strategies.
