Julian Alvarez is currently representing the Argentine national team in Paris for the 2024 Olympics. The 24-year-old wasted no time as he joined the team camp days after lifting the Copa America title with La Albiceleste. While Argentina prepare to take on Ukraine in their final group-stage game in Group B, the player has found time to talk about his situation at Manchester City.

Alvarez joined Pep Guardiola‘s side back in 2022 from River Plate and has been part of City’s sqaud that lifted multiple Premier Leagues and a Champions League among others. Recently, Alvarez opened up about his future and hinted at a move away from the club. Despite his innate ability to find the net and charisma in leading the attack, Alvarez has only operated as a backup for Erling Haaland.

I had one of the most minutes played for any player at City last season. But in the end, you want to contribute and not be left out for important matches. I'll take my time to think about what I want for myself.
Julian Alvarez told DSports Radio

Argentina and Alvarez have won and lost one game each at the Olympics as they head into their final group-stage game.

Pep Guardiola responds to Julian Alvarez’s claim about ‘unimportant’ role at City

Many believe that Julian Alvarez has what it takes to lead the attack for Manchester City or any other team that he plays for. Aged 24, Alvarez scored 19 goals and set up another 13 in the 2023/24 season as City claimed yet another Premier League title among others. Even though Pep Guardiola prefers Erling Haaland up front, the manager has acknowledged Alvarez’s desire to play more under the Spaniard.

I read that he'll think about it and then inform us about what he wants to do. Julian played a lot....he wants more? It's fine. He'll think about it and then tell us.

Fans were surprised at how Guardiola was so accommodating of his request and handled the situation with ease and also felt that Guardiola will make it work even if a player expresses his desire to leave. As City go into the new season, the club have already lost two games in pre-season.

Their third game is against FC Barcelona on the 31st of August at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. City lost games against both Celtic and AC Milan while conceding three goals or more on both occasions.
