At long last, Julien Guerrier can finally call himself champion. On Sunday, the French golfer claimed his first DP World Tour win in over 19 years. The 39-year-old earned his maiden professional winners’ cheque after he overcame a marathon play-off round against playing partner Jorge Campillo at the 2024 Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucia Masters.

Guerrier and Campillo finished the event 21-under, which forced a play-off round. The two golfers would continue to match each other and made pars on each of the first eight play-off holes.

It was the ninth play-off hole that finally managed to separate the two of them. While Guerrier continued his streak of making pars, Campillo failed to do so and managed a bogey on the ninth hole, which handed the French star the title of the 2024 Andalucia Masters champion. Guerrier would get emotional following his win and claimed he could not believe he had finally won.

I’m feeling great and I can’t believe I made it. Because it’s been a really long time I’ve been waiting for it. I know Jorge Campillo is a great player but today it goes my way so I’m very happy

Julien Guerrier said as per DP World Tour.

This extra nine-hole showdown equaled the longest play-off in DP World Tour history. Coincidentally, Guerrier’s coach, Raphael Jacquelin, won a nine-hole playoff event in 2013 en route to winning the Spanish Open. Apart from this, Jose Maria Olazabal also won a nine-hole playoff event in 1989 to win the Dutch Open.
