Julius Randle was part of the package deal that convinced the Minnesota Timberwolves to trade Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks. Responding to the move, Julius Randle’s wife, Kendra Randle, shared her reaction to her husband’s first trade in his NBA career.

Her reaction appeared in a now-viral TikTok video, where she opened up about the emotional process of leaving New York, where Julius Randle had played for the last five seasons. The silver lining of the move came when she mentioned that they were ready to leave the city, as well as praise Minnesota as a beautiful place.

When we heard Minnesota, it was pretty shocking. Although we were so ready to leave New York, living in a condo with two kids is so hard.

Kendra Randle said to local media

The shocking trade occurred just days before the start of training camp, and saw Julius Randle, along with Donte DiVincenzo and a first-round pick, being moved to Minnesota in exchange for star center Karl-Anthony Towns.

With the deal now officially concluded, Randle will enter his 11th season in the NBA and will play his first year in Minnesota during the 2024-25 season. Last season he was limited to 46 games last season due to a shoulder injury, and he would hope to stay clear of the treatment bed moving forward.

Julius Randle’s contract negotiation with the Knicks wasn’t making any progress before trade

Most fans will not know this, but Julius Randle’s future with the New York Knicks had been in question even before he was part of the blockbuster trade that sent him to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Further revelations, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, was that Randle and the Knicks had made no progress on a contract extension.

Meanwhile, there had been no progress on contract extension talks over the summer with Randle, who was likely headed toward free agency in 2025. Randle, an All-Star each of the past two seasons, had seen the franchise totally change around him over the past nine months, and he wasn’t sure where exactly he’d fit with a team built around Jalen Brunson and former Villanova teammates.

Randle’s last season’s were impressive as he averaged 24 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in 46 games during the 2023-24 season. It subsequently named him to his second consecutive All-Star selection, and the Knicks appeared to be shifting focus elsewhere.

The T-Wolves know that losing KAT won’t be easy for their rebuild, but in Randle they have one of the most experienced players in the league. The Wolves are starting the season against the Los Angeles Lakers.
