“You cannot force people to stay but that is it” says Jurgen Klopp on Mo Salah stay at Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp has come out and cleared the air on Mo Salah’s future. The Liverpool boss could not think of a reason to leave Liverpool, other than the weather. However, Klopp also said that Liverpool would not keep Salah against his wishes.
Salah expressed his admiration for Real Madrid and Barcelona
Salah told Spanish newspaper AS in an interview this month that he admired Real Madrid and Barcelona, fuelling rumours that he was looking to move on.
“I think the only reason to leave Liverpool at the moment is the weather. What other reason could be there?” Klopp said at a news conference.
“This is one of the biggest clubs in the world, we pay good money. We have a sensational stadium with outstanding supporters. You cannot force people to stay but that is it. We make changes and bring players in and if a player wants to go then we cannot, probably not hold him back; it’s just that I would not understand why somebody would want to go.”
Jurgen Klopp also conceded that he was fault in handing the captaincy to Trent- Alexander Arnold against Midtjylland. Salah told AS that he was expecting to be captain that night in the absence of Henderson, Milner, Van Dijk and Wijnaldum.
“Afterwards I spoke to Mo about it. Then I realised it did not work out that well so I clarified it. Obviously he gave the interview. That is not a problem for me. Obviously he was disappointed. I did not do it on purpose, and if I made a mistake then it was not making Divock Origi captain that day,” were Klopp’s comments on the incident.
Mohammed Salah recently became Liverpool’s leading goal scorer in the Champions League. He also expressed his desire of breaking all goal scoring records at Liverpool.
