On Wednesday night, Jurickson Profar was back in the Atlanta Braves lineup. In his first start in over 3 months, he would hit his 1st home run of the season. This sparked some wild reaction among MLB fans on social media.

Earlier this season, Profar was handed an 80-game suspension by MLB for a positive result regarding the use of Performance-Enhancing Drugs (PEDs). This development came just after 4 games of the 2025 season.

As his result of his long ban, the Braves would miss his offensive power. In the game against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday, Profar went yard with a long drive.

The 32-year-old smashed a deep shot into the right field in the seventh inning against Hunter Strickland to extend his team’s lead to 8-2. The Braves ended up winning the game 8-3 with Profar going 2-for-4. His single in the sixth inning was more important as it ignited a 7-game outburst.

Profar had a career-best year last season with the San Diego Padres. The outfielder smashed a career-high 24 home runs and had 85 RBIs to his name. He finished the 2024 season with a .280 batting average.

This performance from him saw the Braves cash in on him during the postseason. The National League East side roped him in on a 3-year $42 million deal. The team management would dub him the “second-best bat on the free agency market” after signing him.

Fans on social media, though, would immediately throw in some jokes. Several users brought up his usage of PEDs and the 80-game suspension. One user wrote, “bros gonna get drug tested again immediately after this game” while reacting to Profar’s first home run of the 2025 season.

The return of Profar could be one positive light for the Braves in this dark season. The team, which started the year 0-7, has been in a major slump this year. The win on Wednesday was just their 2nd win in their last 7 games, leaving them with a 39-46 record.

Profar was signed by the Braves in the offseason with the hopes of giving the team some much-needed offensive boost in the absence of Ronald Acuna Jr., the 2023 NL MVP. However, just after 4 games into the season, he was handed an 80-game ban.

Before the game, Profar admitted that he put his team in a “tough position” and apologized for his actions.

I know I put them in a very tough position already, and maybe more when we play on the road or something. But, again, I’m here and ready to go to the battle with them and give my everything that I’ve got to help us get to the playoffs.

Getting into the playoffs will be something that will be the big test for Profar and his teammates from here on. No team in MLB history has ever made it to the postseason following a 0-7 start.

The last time a team finished with a winning record since starting 0-7 was 42 years ago in 1983 when the Houston Astros finished 85-77 record. Following the game on Wednesday, the Braves are 39-46, 7 games behind the .500 win percentage. As for the playoff push, they are 11 games behind the first-place Philadelphia Phillies.
