The Atlanta Braves have finally made a big move this offseason. On Thursday, the team agreed on terms to sign free agent Jurickson Profar on a 3-year $42 million deal.

In his 11th season in the major league, Profar finally broke out. He posted a .280/.380/.459 slash line in his second stint with the San Diego Padres. The 31-year-old went on to hit 24 home runs and drove in 85 runs while cementing his place in the left-field for the Padres.

This made the versatile player one of the top names in the free agency market this offseason. Before this move to the Braves, he was rumored with a move to the New York Yankees, who were looking to strengthen their infield options.

As per reports from MLB.com, Profar will receive a salary of $12 million this year. He will then earn $15 million in the next two years.

After completing his signing, Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos would speak to the media. He would call him the “second-best bat on the free agency market” while discussing his move.

His exit velocity is up quite a bit… This guy has had all the ingredients. Tapping into power was the one piece that was going to elevate his bat. We believe that what he did last year is who he is going forward.

Alex Anthopoulos said as per MLB.com

The signing of Jurickson Profar could help the Braves cope with the absence of Ronald Acuna Jr. in the early stages of the season. The 2023 National League MVP had an ACL tear in his left knee in May 2024 and missed out on the entirety of the season.

So far there is no timeline on the potential return of Acuna Jr. He though is expected to miss atleast six weeks of the 2025 campaign. Profar’s switch hitting ability will provide stability to the Braves offense while also giving them an outfielder.

Social media reactions to Jurickson Profar signing with Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves fans had been waiting for their team to make a major move this offseason. After losing out on Max Fried, they demanded the team to sign a few top names to compete with the likes of the New York Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Jurickson Profar’s signing has now left the fans thrilled.

On X, many celebrated this development. There were some who even took shots at the San Diego Padres for missing out on another player. One fan wrote, “Padres offseason just got worse” while reacting to this.

Check out that and some more reactions below:

For the Padres, Profar is another name that got away from them. Last week they suffered two setbacks as Roki Sasaki choose the Los Angeles Dodgers over them. A day later, their former relief pitcher Tanner Scott also signed with the Dodgers, leaving them stranded once again.
