As the baseball world gears up for the World Baseball Classic (WBC), Atlanta Braves fans received some unpleasant news. On Tuesday, Jurickson Profar was slapped with a 162-game suspension following his 2nd positive Performance-Enhancing Drugs (PEDs) test.

After a career-best year with the San Diego Padres in 2024, the outfielder became a free agent. In the offseason, he would join the Braves on a 3-year, $42 million deal.

Just 4 games into the season, the Braves were dealt a major blow as Profar was found violating the MLB’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. He tested positive for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) substance and was handed an 80-game suspension.

In his first game back, Profar would go the yard. In the game against the Los Angeles Angels, he went 2-for-4 while hitting a deep shot into right field and giving his team an 8-2 lead. The Braves went on to win 8-3.

Profar ended the 2025 season hitting 14 home runs and having 43 RBIs while batting with a .245 average in 80 games. In the 2026 Spring Training, he was batting with a .300 average.

This time, he tested positive for Exogenous Testosterone and its metabolites. As this is his second offense, he has been handed a 162-game suspension.

Profar will not get paid this season and will be banned from participating in any WBC games. The Braves will not owe him $15 million this year. If the team does reach the postseason, the player will remain suspended.

He is now the 7th player in history to receive a 162-game suspension for PEDs since the MLB increased its penalty for second-time offenders. The last MLB star to receive this punishment was J.C. Mejia, who got slapped with this in September 2023.

Before this incident, Profar was gearing up to play with Team Netherlands at the World Baseball Classic. He will now sit at the sidelines and miss an entire year of MLB action.

Jurickson Profar not the only player suspended by MLB for positive PEDs test

Jurickson Profar tested positive for PEDs once again and received a heavy suspension. He, though, was not the only MLB star who got suspended for a positive PED test on Tuesday.

Philadelphia Phillies star Johan Rojas also tested positive. The 25-year-old, who made his MLB debut in 2023, was handed an 80-game suspension. According to reports, Rojas is appealing this decision.

Before this, he was part of the Dominican Republic roster for the WBC. Since this announcement, he has been dropped from the roster.

If Rojas loses the appeal, he will remain suspended. He will become the second Phillies star over the past year to receive an 80-game ban for testing positive for PEDs after Jose Alvarado. The left-handed reliever tested positive for the same drug that Profar has tested this year.

Meanwhile, Max Kepler, who played for the Phillies last year but became a free agent after the 2025 season, also received an 80-game ban for PEDs usage.
