The old cliche of “records are made to be broken” was in full flow on Sunday as Alexander Ovechkin went past Wayne Gretzky. “The Great Eight” scored his 895th goal and surpassed the record of “The Great One”. Pop artist Justin Bieber was left stunned with this.
Bieber, the Canadian pop artist, is a huge fan of hockey. A month ago, he was seen taking part in a charity game and leading his team to aide the relief effort of the Los Angeles Wildfire.
Ovechkin entered the game while being tied with Gretzky on 894 with two goals against the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday. The historic moment came in the second period when he fired a shot from his left side power-play office.
As the fans in the UBS Arena exploded with joy, Bieber was left stunned. The 31-year-old, who was watching the game from his home, would take to his social media to make his feelings know.
He would first share an picture of the game from his TV and congratulated him while dropping a five-word reaction.

He then shared the video of NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, Wayne Gretzky and Alex Ovechkin speaking during the special ceremony that took place after his goal. Bieber, just like many other hockey fans, was blown away on Sunday with Ovechkin’s record breaking goal.
Bieber though was not the only star who sent a congratulation message to him. Several top sporting and entertainment stars shared a congratulation message to him which was later shared by the NHL.

As Justin Bieber and other hockey fans celebrated this milestone moment, Ovechkin’s wife Anastasia Shubskaya thanked the Canadian artist for his support.
