The infamous saga between Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos is known to everyone but the Pittsburgh Steelers took the poor treatment of their recently acquired quarterback rather personally as they gave a crushing blow to them. Since Wilson is benched due to his calf injury, Justin Fields stepped forward and made sure to seek justice for the veteran.
The Steelers marked their second consecutive victory in Week 2, but this time they were more motivated than they were when facing the Atlanta Falcons. They held their opponents, the Broncos, with mere six points while dominating the entire field since the beginning, resulting in a slashy 13-6 win.
However, that wasn’t the end of the revenge game. Fields gave an earful to head coach Sean Payton and the Broncos for their miserable treatment of the nine-time Pro Bowler and eventually forcing him out, on behalf of Wilson during a post-game press conference.
I think we all know Russ got did dirty last year, so I know he couldn’t play today in this game, but it was awesome getting that win for him. He got a petty game ball.Justin Fields said via Sports Illustrated
Fields dedicated his victory to Wilson as he took sweet revenge on the AFC West side, who recorded their second consecutive loss of the season under rookie quarterback Bo Nix. The Steelers are now preparing for their week 3 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers on the coming Sunday.
Pittsburgh Steelers’ decisive victory over the Denver Broncos
As Justin Fields logged 117 passing yards and a touchdown on Sunday, he was supported by a strong offensive line, which delivered a stellar performance in the 13-6 win. Running back Najee Harris impressed by carrying the ball 17 times for 69 yards.
Tight end Pat Freiermuth had the best receiving performance, catching four passes for 39 yards, while George Pickens contributed with two catches for 29 yards. Although the offense performed well, it was the defense that truly stole the show.
They successfully targeted Nix twice in the game, first by Damontae Kazee and Corey Trice Jr. who intercepted him in the red zone. Additionally, Alex Highsmith and TJ Watt sacked the rookie quarterback while allowing their opponents to score no more than six points.
