Justin Gaethje lived up to his reputation as one of the most violent competitors in the promotion’s history at UFC 300. The fighter went on a slugfest against Max Holloway for five rounds. Even after getting knocked out at the very last moment, the fighter is not ready to change his fighting style.
Justin Gaethje recently did an interview with MMA Knockout, where he was asked about what fans can expect from him in his future bouts. While responding to the question, the ‘Highlight’ revealed that his fight with Max Holloway was an all-out war. According to the fighter, he always took the same approach in fighting throughout his life and will stick with it.
Certainly the definition of a war, especially getting put to sleep like that.a….even if I wanted to change how I fight, it's really not possible. That's how I compete. It's how I've competed since I was a kid. And so the next time I step in there, you know, the best live show on Earth.Justin Gaethje via MMA Knockout
Gaethje broke his nose in the early rounds of the fight which made it harder for the fighter to breathe. However, that didn’t stop him from giving his all out for the whole duration of the fight.
Gaethje has given fight fans some of the most brutal fights in recent history and has absorbed some nasty hits throughout his career. After his recent knockout, many fans and experts raised questions about the fighter’s overall health. However, this doesn’t seem to concern the fighter at all.
Justin Gaethje doesn’t mind losing out to Dustin Poirier for the title fight against Islam Makhachev
Before UFC 300, Justin Gaethje had mentioned that he wouldn’t feel good if Dustin Poirier got a lightweight title shot before him. The pair had fought previously and it was Gaethje who knocked out Poirier in the second round. However, after his loss at UFC 300, things have changed significantly.
While talking about the upcoming fight between Dustin Poirier and Islam Makhachev, Gaethje mentioned that he’s happy for the ‘Diamond’ to get the opportunity.
I'm happy for Dustin. Good for him. Somebody had to fight. I think no matter what we're gonna lose, he [Makhachev] was going to be early, it was gonna be pretty much impossible to make that fight in 5-6 weeks.Justin Gaethje via MMA Knockout
Gaethje stated that he doesn’t regret taking the Max Holloway fight given the attention it got and the numbers it made. The BMF title fight is already being considered an all-time classic. However, it was a gutsy move from Gaethje to risk his title shot for the BMF fight.
