Iga Swiatek, the clay court legend in the making has proved her dominance through the entire season. Heading into the French Open, she was the clear favorite and once again proved her dominance on clay. One other player, who has done well was Coco Gauff.
Even though Gauff has never gotten past the semi-final stage, she has played great tennis in the previous rounds and was up against Swiatek in the semi-finals of the French Open. Two amazing players battled it out for one position in the finals. Almost everyone expected a close match between the two, but it was once again a clear-cut dominant victory by Swiatek.
From the get-go, she took off and stole the first set in no time. Although Coco Gauff tried to come back in the second, she soon got broken, thus handing the Pole the keys to win the match. Soon, Swiatek won the match 6-2, 6-4 to record yet another dominant victory.
After the match, Justine Henin gave a review of Gauff’s shortcomings and expressed her sense of disappointment with the level of tennis the American brought to the match.
Even though there were times when she actually created situations for herself, I find that at no time did we have the feeling that she could really do something. She tried to be very aggressive, especially at the start of the match before adjusting certain things in the second set but her reaction and her few tears spoke volumes about her nervousness.said Justine Henin via France TV
She doesn't know how to go about it, she tries things but never with any form of stability. It's not just about managing important moments, it's also about the background of the game and his ability to shake up Iga Swiatek in a regular and stable manner during a match.continued Justine Henin in the interview
With this win, Swiatek extended her head-to-head against Gauff to 11-1 and continued her 20-match win streak at the French Open.
Iga Swiatek inches closer to history as she takes on Jasmine Paolini in the finals
Iga Swiatek has never been more dominating on clay than she has this year. After winning two consecutive Masters titles in Madrid and Rome, she has also carried that form to Paris. Other than the second-round match against Naomi Osaka, the Pole has had a near-to-perfect run in this tournament.
She inches closer to creating history and winning her first-ever triple crown on clay. Moreover, she is also a win away from her 5th Grand Slam title and a third consecutive one in Paris. Swiatek takes on Jasmine Paolini, who has also had a dream run at the Grand Slam.
Paolini bloomed later than the many WTA stars but is finding her form at the right time, making her the underdog of the finals. She also cruised past her semi-final opponent easily to make it here.
