Justin Herbert was very close to missing the Los Angeles Chargers’ Sunday night clash against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He suffered a high ankle sprain in the Chargers’ Week 2 win over the Carolina Panthers.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh remained optimistic about Herbert’s chances of not missing week 3, but the doctors put the quarterback on day-to-day observation. Herbert missed a couple of practice sessions but returned on Thursday.
Later that day, Herbert told the media that he would not play on Sunday if he wasn’t 100%.
I would never step foot on a field that I didn't feel comfortable playing in. Whether it's been the ribs or whether it's been broken fingers, I've felt comfortable and felt ready and prepared to go out there. So I know that we'll do the same process and we'll see what it plays out.Justin Herbert told Eric Smith of Chargers.com
On Saturday, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler revealed that the Chargers are hopeful about Justin Herbert’s availability at Acrisure Stadium.

The Chargers need Justin Herbert on the team if they want to beat the Steelers
Herbert went through similar circumstances right before the season kicked off. He was diagnosed with a plantar fascia in his right foot. Harbaugh prepared himself to start his tenure in LA without the 2020 first-round pick, at least for the first few game weeks.
Right before the Raiders game in week 1, the doctors saw enough improvement in Herbert to green-signal his inclusion in the starting lineup. In the two games since being elevated, he completed 31/46 for 274 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception with a passer rating of 95.7.
He's [Justin Herbert] got this ability to make the play. Just keep going and extend the play, and this fearless about him that it’s nothing short of being a warrior, not giving up on any play. It’s incredible what he can do.Jim Harbaugh said

Currently, the Steelers are massive favorites (55-45) to make it three wins out of three by beating the Chargers. However, those odds don’t include Herbert starting the game.
Fans have to wait until gameday to be completely aware of whether the 26-year-old is playing or not. If Herbert doesn’t play, then either Easton Stick or Taylor Heinicke will start for the Chargers.
