Bournemouth forward Justin Kluivert created history by becoming the first player to score three penalties in a single EPL match, during the club’s 4-2 win over Wolverhampton. With his three brilliant spot-kicks, Kluivert ended Wolves’ four-match unbeaten run in the EPL.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 3rd minute through Justin Kluivert, who converted a penalty after Toti Gomes fouled Evanilson. Kluivert extended the lead with his second penalty, after Evanilson was once again kicked by Wolverhampton keeper Jose Sa inside the box.

A similar foul by Sa on the Brazilian in the 74th minute allowed the Dutchman to create EPL history by scoring a hat-trick of penalties. Jorgen Strand Larsen did score two goals for the Wolves, but it was no match to Kluivert’s heroics.

Kluivert also became the first player since 1957 to score three penalties in an English topflight match. Ken Barnes had last scored three penalties for Manchester City in a 6-2 win over Everton.

Kluivert has now taken his season goal-scoring tally to five goals in 14 matches and hopes to follow in the footsteps of his father and Ajax legend, Patrick Kluivert. Apart from the 25-year-old, Bournemouth star Evanilson also etched his name in history books, becoming the first player to win three penalties in an EPL match.

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola praised his players after the match while also emphasizing how much they needed the win. The Cherries are now placed in the 11th position on the EPL table, with 18 points. Wolves, on the other hand, have slipped back into the relegation spots.

Wolves manager Gary O’Neil speaks out following disastrous Bournemouth defeat

Wolves conceded three penalties during the match, which proved to be the difference maker in the scores between the two sides. Manager Gary O’Neil, during the post-match interview, exclaimed that it was a disappointing and self-inflicted defeat, as well as pointed to the errors that his side made. He branded the penalties as ‘unbelievable’ ones and added that Wolves now have a mountain to climb.

Incredibly disappointing and self-inflicted. Some crazy errors there, especially early in the game. It is disappointing… Crazy, crazy penalties to give away.

Gary O’Neil’s side had, most recently, come off a brilliant 4-1 win over Fulham, but their defeat to Bournemouth has once again hindered the improvements they had made. They next face Everton in the Premier League, followed by another difficult encounter against West Ham United.
