- Justin Langer criticized Jemimah Rodrigues for her poor shot selection during the Test match against Australia.
- Rodrigues' dismissal came after she attempted a risky lap shot, scoring only 14 runs in the second innings.
- Australia won the one-off Test by ten wickets, completing a clean sweep in the all-format series against India.
Australian legend Justin Langer was highly critical of Jemimah Rodrigues‘ poor shot selection during the India Women’s one-off Test against Australia in Perth. The high-risk shot, which resulted in her dismissal in the second innings, has since become a major talking point.
The Women in Blue were no match for the Australians at the W.A.C.A. Ground in Perth, as they faced off in the final leg of the all-format series. While India-W won the T20I series 2-1, the home side achieved a clean sweep in the ODI series, winning 3-0.
In the lone Test match, Australia-W secured a commanding ten-wicket victory, with Annabel Sutherland delivering a standout performance with both bat and ball.

India-W could only post 198 runs in the first innings, with a key contribution coming from Jemimah Rodrigues (52). For the Aussies, Sutherland picked up a four-wicket haul, while Lucy Hamilton scalped three.
The home side responded strongly, posting 323 runs, largely due to Sutherland’s 129 and Ellyse Perry‘s 76. In the second innings, the Indian batters struggled once again, only getting 149 runs to set a 25-run target that the Australians chased down in four overs.
It was Jemimah Rodrigues’ dismissal in the second innings that shocked many. She attempted a lap shot off Sutherland in the eighth over, but failed miserably. The Aussie all-rounder delivered a back-of-a-length ball well outside the off-stump.
Rodrigues surprisingly shifted across her stumps too early for a scoop shot, which resulted in her mistiming the ball, getting a top-edge towards leg gully that was caught behind by keeper Beth Mooney.
Having hit three boundaries, Rodrigues was confident in attempting the risky shot, which ultimately led to her dismissal after scoring 14 runs off 15 balls in the second innings. Ex-Australian batter Justin Langer was particularly frustrated, with the 25-year-old’s wicket coming at a time when the team needed a stable partnership. He voiced his discontent while commentating, exclaiming that the young Indian batter would regret her choice of shot during the match. While commentating on 7 Cricket, he said:
Dumb cricket, poor cricket. She [Jemimah Rodrigues] will rue that decision. You’re playing Test cricket, you’ve got two and a bit days to bat. Very, very disappointing end to what’s been an excellent innings.

Nonetheless, the Australian players celebrated enthusiastically as they enter a new era without Alyssa Healy. In her farewell address, the retiring captain expressed gratitude to the Indian team for visiting the country for the all-format series so soon after the demanding WPL schedule.
16-year-old Prodigy eclipses domestic milestone set by Jemimah Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana
Going past senior Indian women’s team players Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues, Deeya Yadav etched her name in the history books. Playing for Haryana against Tripura in a Women’s U-23 One-Day Trophy game, the teenage batter scored an outstanding double century.

Opening the batting with Tanishka Sharma at the CAP Ground in Puducherry, Yadav scored an unbeaten 206 runs off 147 balls, with the help of 22 boundaries and seven maximums. She received able support from Sharma, who went on to hit 79 runs off 106 deliveries. A late 52-run innings from captain Sonia Mendhiya helped Haryana to a massive first innings total of 356/3 against Tripura.

Tripura could not even make it close, as they only managed 109/9. Coming back to Deeya Yadav, she recorded her second double-century in limited-overs cricket, having previously scored 213 in a U-15 game in 2023. The 16-year-old has now surpassed Jemimah Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana’s record for most domestic double-tons in 50-over cricket, making her the only player to achieve the feat twice.
Yadav’s consistent high performance in Indian women’s domestic cricket earned her a WPL contract. Following her excellent display in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, the opener was drafted by the Delhi Capitals in the 2026 auction at her base price of INR 10 lakhs.
