Justin Rose is ageing like a fine wine. On Sunday, the 45-year-old golfer recorded a dominating victory at the Farmers Insurance Open and set scoring records. After his win, he would send a hilarious warning to World No.1 Scottie Scheffler.
All eyes of the golfing world last week were on Brooks Koepka. The 5-time major champion made his first regular start on the tour since 2022 following his dramatic exit from LIV Golf. Amidst this, Rose stole the show with his record-breaking performance.
In the first round at the Torrey Pines Golf Course (North Course), he went low. He made 10 birdies as he carded a score of 62 and finished the round top of the leaderboard.
His ranking did not fall over the next three days. He fired a score of 65 and 68 in the second and third round respectively, and was looking at his 13th PGA Tour victory.
On Sunday, he started the front nine with 3 birdies. Despite a bogey on the 12th hole, the Englishmen had full control. He wrapped up the day on the Torrey Pines Golf Course (South Course) with a 2-under 70 score.
Rose thus went wire-to-wire and claimed a 7-shot victory. Runners-up Pierceson Coody, Si Woo Kim and Ryo Hisatsune finished the event 16-under par.

The victory saw Rose jump up in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). The former U.S. Open champion jumped from 10th to 3rd in the rankings, sitting just behind Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler.
After his win, he sent a hilarious warning to Scheffler and claimed that he was coming for the No.1 spot.

Rose has been the World No.1 golfer before. In September 2018, he climbed to the top of the rankings and dethroned Dustin Johnson. From them till April 2019, he battled with Johnson and Koepka for this spot week in and week out.
Speaking of Scheffler, he was not in this tournament. After winning the American Express Championship, the American golfer skipped the Farmers Insurance Open. He has been top of the rankings since May 2023 after he overtook Jon Rahm.

With this win, Rose took home $1.728 million from the $9.6 million purse. The three runner-ups, meanwhile, earned $726,400.
