Since his victory at the PGA Championship in 2022, Justin Thomas has suffered some brutal defeats. On Sunday, it looked like his winless drought would finally come to an end. However, his near putt misses saw him suffer another heartbreaking loss at the 2024 Zozo Championship.
The two-time major champion had been in fine form in this tournament. He had previously announced that after this tournament, he would go home to join his wife as the couple are expecting the birth of their first daughter.
Despite shooting scores of 66, 64, 65, and 66 in the four rounds, Thomas was unable to land himself the trophy. The American golfer finished the event 19-under 280, which earned him a T2 finish along with Max Greyserman.
Both golfers finished one shot behind the winner Nico Echavarria, who fired a final round of 67 at the ACCORDIA GOLF Narashino Country Club in Japan to claim his second PGA Tour win.

It was the putting that let down Thomas. Several of his putts would roll by the edge of the hole but did not go in which eventually became the main difference.
Hit so many good putts today that just didn’t go in. That’s the difference. I needed some of those ones that burned the edge to fall.

Justin Thomas left ‘disappointed’ following T2 finish at 2024 Zozo Championship
As Justin Thomas continues to find his form back, he was hoping to get back in the winner’s circle. Following his T2 finish at the 2024 Zozo Championship, the 31-year-old admitted that he was ‘bummed‘ and ‘disappointed‘ with the result but was happy with his performance.

During the post-round interview, Thomas also claimed that he had a lot of things that went right and that things were moving in the right direction for him.
It’s a mixture of obviously bummed and disappointed, but I played so well. I played plenty well enough to win the tournament… I did a lot of things really well… The stuff I’ve been working on, everything I’ve been doing is obviously the right stuff and I’m still going the right direction.

Justin Thomas made just 1 bogey all week and went 68 holes bogey free with an awesome display of ball striking at the ZOZO. The putter was a really cold today, but good to see him back flushing it again. The hard work is paying off ???

In the 19 events he played this season, Thomas achieved five top-10 finishes. He also finished 14th in the 2024 FedEx Cup, a tournament he did not even qualify for last year, highlighting his return to top form after a major slump in 2023.
