As per Ben Verlander, 31-year-old third baseman Matt Chapman would bring out a wheelchair. He would then make Justin Verlander sit on the chair and rolled it out on the field. The rookies would then sing “Happy Birthday” for the veteran player.

Oh my god. For Justin’s birthday Matt Chapman rolled him out in a wheelchair and all rookies and teammates with less than one year of service time sung him Happy Birthday.

In recent years, Verlander has suffered some injuries due to his age. Despite the lingering health issues, he is “pumped” up for the new season and wants to continue pitching for a long time.

MLB insider claims Justin Verlander wants to pitch until the age of 45

Justin Verlander has previously claimed that he wants to continue to pitch until the age of 45. An MLB insider recently doubled down on this and pointed out how the former Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers star wants to be the ‘next Nolan Ryan‘.

When it comes to top pitchers in the MLB, Nolan Ryan is considered by many as one of the best in the business. The MLB Hall of Famer is the only pitcher in the league with 5,000 strikeouts.

In his legendary career, Ryan picked up 5,714 strikeouts while having a 324-292 Win-Loss record. Ryan also holds the record for the most career no-hitters thrown with 7.

Ryan began his career at the age of 19 and played 27 seasons in the MLB. He would retire at the age of 46 while having several records to his name. MLB insider Ken Rosenthal recently claimed that Verlander, just like Ryan, wants to play until 45.

He’s feeling good about himself and his goal still is 300 wins. I don’t know if he’ll get there he’s 38 shy, but if there’s ever a guy you want to bet on, it’s him. He keeps himself in great shape. He told me he wants to pitch until he’s 45. It’s not a set goal, but he always idolized Nolan Ryan, who pitched till 46.

Ken Rosenthal said on Foul Terrority

If Justin Verlander wants to play until 45, then he will have to play at least 4 more season in the big leagues. Whether he will be able to do that or not is something that will be interesting to see as age could catch up on him.

If he does manage to stay fit, he can knock off few more things in his already Hall of Fame career. With a record of 262-147, he would need 38 more wins to reach the 300-win mark. He could also go past the 3,500 strikeout mark as he currently sits at 3,416.
