Justin Verlander is back in Detroit. On Tuesday, the 3-time Cy Young Award winner signed a 1-year deal and returned to the Detroit Tigers. Following this, he dropped a 5-word message on his social media accounts.
Last year in January, Verlander signed a 1-year, $15 million deal with the San Francisco Giants and represented the National League West side. The veteran had a shaky start to his tenure, leading to many questioning about his future.
The 9-time MLB All-Star went 4-11 with a 3.85 ERA in 29 starts. He picked up 137 strikeouts in 152.0 innings, which he pitched. After the Giants missed the postseason, he would become a free agent once again.
As pitchers and catchers reported on Tuesday, the Tigers made a huge announcement. The American League Central side brought back the right-handed pitcher on a 1-year, $13 million deal.
The Tigers have signed three-time American League Cy Young and nine-time All-Star RHP Justin Verlander to a one-year contract for the 2026 season.

Verlander, who will turn 43 next week, has come full circle. He began his MLB career with the Detroit-based side after being picked in the 2004 draft. On July 4 2005, he made his MLB debut.
While reacting to this development, the American international shared a clip highlighting his time with the Tigers and dropped a 5-word message.

The pitcher went on to establish himself as one of the greats of the game and spent 13 seasons with them. During this time, he picked up several accolades.
Just seconds before the trade deadline in August 2017, he was traded to the Houston Astros. The American League West team went on to win the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, earning him his first World Series title.
In 2022, he earned his second World Series ring as the Astros defeated the Philadelphia Phillies. While he opted out of his deal after the season, he claimed his 3rd Cy Young Award as he went 18-4 while pitching with a 1.75 ERA in 28 starts.
He would then sign a 2-year, $86.7 million deal with the New York Mets. With an Average Annual Value of $43.3 million, he became the highest-paid pitcher in the league.
While he picked up his 250th career win with the team, he was unable to produce the same type of numbers with the Mets as he did with the Astros in the previous season. In August, he was traded back to the Astros.
The veteran will now return to the Tigers. As per reports, he will earn $2 million as salary in the 2026 season. After 2030, payments for his $11 million deferred salary will begin.
