Novak Djokovic recently parted ways with Andy Murray just weeks before the Roland Garros. The split came as a surprise to the tennis world, as it was expected that the former rivals would be together at least until June. And now, former World No.1 Justine Henin revealed that there’s a likelihood the Serbian will be without a coach for a long period.

This is not the first time in the past twelve months that Djokovic has been without a coach. The 37-year-old was without one after he parted with long-term coach Goran Ivanisevic in March last year. Djokovic then competed through the season without a coach, adding only a couple of familiar people to his team.

However, things haven’t gone as expected for the partnership between Djokovic and Murray. Their collaboration was highly praised ahead of the Australian Open, which yielded instant results with the World No.6 reaching the semifinals in Melbourne. After that, he lost in two tournament opening matches.

He did bounce back at the Miami Open and won five consecutive matches to reach the final, but lost the title to Jakub Mensik in straight sets. Since the start of the clay season, he’s yet to win a match and has struggled to smoothly transition to the surface. He also withdrew from the ongoing Italian Open without any reason.

Nonetheless, the 24-time Grand Slam winner has accepted a wildcard entry into the Geneva Open, which begins on the 19th of May. The tournament is expected to be a preparation for the upcoming French Open.

Justine Henin revealed during a conversation that she doesn’t think Djokovic would take another coach as he has completely invested his attention in the Geneva Open and Roland Garros. Henin said via TNT Sports:

It's impossible to answer this if Djokovic will continue without a specific coach or seek someone. We are not in his head, we don’t know anything, so this will be a period of huge uncertainty. Everything will come from him, his resources, and his desire to stay at this top level. We also do not know his personal issues, if he has any. There are many unknowns surrounding his figure; the only thing we know is that he will be in Geneva before Roland Garros, but it's almost impossible to predict what will happen there. We are all waiting, we all want to see him, but what does he need? Surely he is looking for the same.

Djokovic competed at the Geneva Open last year and reached the semi-finals before losing to Tomas Machac. The former World No.1 will hope to play his best tennis at the tournament ahead of the French Open.

Novak Djokovic projected to face his Madrid Open conqueror in Geneva

Novak Djokovic has a chance of getting instant revenge against Matteo Arnaldi at the Geneva Open. The Serbian is in the same half of the draw as the Italian star, who defeated him in straight sets at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid. Djokovic will face the winner between Marton Fucsovics and Zizou Bergs in the second round after earning a first-round bye.

Arnaldi, the eighth seed, will take on Hugo Gaston in the first round before facing either Fabian Marozsan or a qualifier in the second round. If he progresses to the third round, he will face Djokovic for the second time. Djokovic will arrive in Geneva with a three-match losing streak, with two of them on clay.

Should Djokovic win his opening two matches at the ATP 250 event, he’s projected to face Tomas Machac in the semi-finals for the second straight year. If Djokovic wins the match, he’s projected to face top seed Taylor Fritz in the final of the Geneva Open.
