Juventus coach unhappy with his players for “handing the opener on silver platter”
Juventus lost 2-1 against FC Porto after an awful performance and Pirlo didn’t mince his words in his post-match conference. Juventus conceded both goals in the early stages of each half and now need a comeback in the 2nd leg.
Mehdi Taremi scored in the second minute and Moussa Marega in the 46th to give them a 2-0 lead. Federico Chiesa handed Juventus a crucial away goal at the end to reduce the deficit.
Pirlo’s team selection was questioned as Morata was left on the bench
“We had prepared well for this game, it was not the attitude we wanted, but conceding a goal in the opening minute when we handed it to them on a silver platter made everything more difficult,” Pirlo told Sky Sport Italia.
The players let their heads drop and Porto were able to play the game that they wanted to play. “We shouldn’t have played like that and it’s a shame. We could have done better.”
“Our approach was wrong after we conceded the goal. We weren’t smart, the ball was moved around too slowly.”
Former Juventus and Italy international Alessandro Del Piero termed this team as one which lacked ideas. His comments were justified by the fact that despite having 66% possession they did not threaten the Porto goal enough.
“Juventus lacked ideas. This team without Arthur, Dybala, Cuadrado, Bonucci is certainly not the same side.”
“But I am convinced that the return leg will be another Juve, both from an emotional and attention point of view.”
