The eighth edition of Vivo Pro Kabaddi (PKL) is set to begin later this year in December, after no action in 2020. The PKL 2021 auction will be a three-day event, taking place between August 29 and August 31, 2021.
As many as 450 kabaddi players will be going under the hammer during the bidding process in Mumbai. All 12 franchises collectively released 121 players which include the likes of Pardeep Narwal, Ajay Thakur, Deepak Niwas Hooda, Rahul Chaudhari, Manjeet Chhillar and Rohit Kumar. All these stars will be up for grabs to fill the voids in teams’ squads.
PKL 2021 Auction: Timings and Broadcast Details
The Vivo PKL auction will be from August 29, 2021, onwards around 2:00 PM (IST). The event is spread over three days with different slots to separate categories of players in the pool.
Star Sports Network has the official broadcasting rights for the Vivo PKL 2021 auction. However, the live broadcast of the auction will only take place for the Category A players, which will begin at 6:30 PM (IST) on August 30 (Monday).
The fans can catch the auction’s live-action at Star Sports 1 Hindi (SD/HD), Star Sports 2 (SD/HD), Star Sports FIRST, Star Sports 1 Telugu, Star Sports 1 Tamil and Star Sports 1 Kannada TV channels in India. On the other hand, the live streaming of the PKL 2021 auction will be available on Disney+Hotstar.
PKL 2021 Auction: Franchises’ Remaining Purse and Pool Categories
Every franchise can exercise their maximum available purse of INR 4.4 crores, with the utmost two Final Bid Match (FBM) cards, depending on how many players they have already retained on their side.
The player auction pool is divided into four categories with different base prices:
- Category A: INR 30 lac
- Category B: INR 20 lac
- Category C: INR 10 lac
- Category D: INR 6 lac
The PKL has revolutionised the sport of kabaddi over a course of seven successful seasons. The cash-rich league has given a world-class platform to the budding players, taking it to new heights. So far, six players have breached the INR 1 crore bidding price and would be interesting to see how many more join this elite club.
