Russian tennis legend Kafelnikov Yevgeny has slammed Iga Swiatek for criticizing the WTA’s congested schedule. The World No. 1 voiced her concerns about the jam-packed tennis calendar, stating that it makes tennis unsustainable for players.
Cincinnati Open was Swiatek’s 14th tournament of the season. The Polish star has won five titles this year, including the French Open, Indian Wells Masters, and Madrid Open. She had a disappointing grass season, where she competed only at Wimbledon and failed to get past the third round.
She managed to win the singles bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. She then withdrew from the Canadian Open, which began a day after the Olympics ended. In Cincinnati, she complained about the hectic schedule of the WTA calendar, something that many players have expressed recently.
I think we have too many tournaments in the season. It’s not going to end well.. It makes tennis less fun for us.. we deserve to rest a little bit more.Iga Swiatek told SkySports
Yevgeny took to social media and stated that Swiatek’s complaints were unwarranted and argued she should be paid a lot less than he did currently.
Is someone pushing you to play ??? All you fricking do is complain!! I’ll tell you what you deserve ! You deserve to get paid a lot less than you do now!! How about that??Kafelnikov Yevgeny wrote on X
