Arsenal forward Kai Havertz received a standing ovation from German fans for his heroics during the Euros opener in Munich. The German No.7 scored a goal and provided an assist in a 5-1 win over Scotland.

The 25-year-old forward was given an opportunity to start up front for Germany, ahead of Dortmund’s Niclas Fullkrug and Stuttgart’s Deniz Undav. Havertz justified coach Julian Nagelsmann‘s decision by contributing significantly to Germany’s emphatic victory. As a result, he received a standing ovation from the Allianz Arena spectators when he was substituted in the 63rd minute for Fullkrug.

The former Chelsea star brilliantly assisted Jamal Musiala, in the 19th minute of the match, to take Germany 2-0 up. Musiala was later awarded the Man of the Match award. Havertz converted a 45th minute penalty, after Scotland’s Ryan Porteous had fouled Ilkay Gundogan inside the box. Havertz sent Angus Gunn the wrong way and placed the ball in the corner, marking his 17th international goal in his 47th appearance for the German national team.
