Kamaru Usman vs Gilbert Burns which was originally planned for UFC 251, looks almost set to take place at UFC 258 which is scheduled on February 13. The fight will see Kamaru Usman defend his welterweight title. The two had initially been scheduled to fight in the month of July, earlier this year, but much to the disappointment of everyone, the fight was called off due to Burns testing positive for COVID-19. Kamaru Usman, ended up fighting Jorge Masvidal (who had taken the fight on a very short notice) instead, and eventually came out with his belt, unscathed – winning via. unanimous decision. The fight was once again rescheduled for UFC 256, but this time it was Usman who had to pull out citing injuries.
The news that the fight is scheduled for UFC 258, was broken by Raphael Marinho of Combate Brazil. He took to Twitter to reveal that the fighters await only the contracts to make the fight official.
February 13th it is!
Raphael Marinho’s tweet read, (Translated to English), “Ultimate scored Kamaru Usman vs. Gilbert Durinho for February 13th. Fighters await only contracts to make the fight official.“
The 17-1 Kamaru is 12-0 (including the Ultimate Fighter fight with Hayder Hassan) in the UFC and will look to improve on that when he takes on jiu-jitsu specialist Gilbert Burns. Gilbert Burns, on the other hand, has just three losses in his professional MMA career and is riding a hot win streak of 6 wins, with his last loss coming way back in 2018 to Dan Hooker. It is to be noted that both Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns were training partners.
Do you think the Nigerian Nightmare will have it easy against Durinho?
